Seriously all I see people do is complain about how hard nursing is and why their job sucks. Does anyone actually enjoy their job haha? It's making some of us people in college get sketchy about our career choices.

There are days when I walk out the door so proud of what I do, and days like today I come out completely exhausted ...I've been running like a chicken with its head cut off from the moment I got report to the very moment I gave report. I also had to stay 1.5 hrs behind to catch up with charting. Sometimes I wish the pace wasnt so fast. Moments where my heart isn't racing either. :-)

I think a big reason you read a lot of negativity is because people tend to come to these forums to vent or look for advice. If there were a bunch of posts saying "I love nursing!!!" all the responses would just be "YEAH!" etc... not very useful (although nice sometimes!)

i agree that people do come to these forums to vent..I love my job. I do have days where I think what the heck just happened? The day was long and crazy but I still love it none the less.

I was falling back in love with my job until last month when a patient punched me. Out of the blue punched me. Not drunk, high or demented just plain mean.
I'm on workers comp and the husband wants me to leave.

No one loves their job all the time. Anyone who says that is lying. Overall, I love being a nurse. Sure, I have bad days, but the good outweighs the bad. If it didn't, I'd be out of there.

It's possibly a personality trait common in people who are drawn to nursing, to kvetch a lot. But the pp is correct, it's just like complaint websites. If you have a bad experience you tell EVERYONE and if you have a good experience you tell maybe one person.
Besides, if the greatest amount of posts were "I heart my job" posts, the response would range from "SHUDDUP I CAN'T FIND A JOB STOP RUBBING IT IN" to "you're delusional" to "My job sucks."
Oh, and if you make a vent post you can count on being told what a horrible person and nurse you are for not enjoying every poopy, emetic, drugged out, hypotensive, hyperglycemic, violent, demented moment of your job, usually by certain people who believe that they walk on water.
Oh come on, you know we're perfect angels of mercy with never an angry thought.

A lot of people go into nursing without the passion for it and end up hating it. A lot of people love it until they hit the real world. Honestly, I enjoy my job more when I have nice patients. One mean patient or nasty family member can ruin my night and make me reconsider why I chose nursing. I probably question my decision every shift I work one time or another. However, the feeling of really making an impact on someone makes it all worth it. When I leave and during walking report a patient thanks me for everything or even when a patient with dementia says they love me it makes me feel so awesome. Getting that hard IV. Catching changes that if I'd overlooked would have resulted in a negative outcome for the patient. There are little moments that motivate me to continue.

I love my job. I can't IMAGINE doing anything else. I genuinely look forward to going to work every day (not the case with every job, but my current one is pretty awesome:)).

If jobs were all butterflies and unicorns farting sparkles, then we would PAY the employer to be there...Not the opposite.
I think the only job I LOVED was working at a summer camp... But that is looking backwards 15 years, probably through rose-colored glasses.

I hate it! The only thing I like about nursing is the opportunities it has given me in that I was able to move across the country and have many job opportunities. Otherwise I'm starting to become embarrassed that I'm a nurse. I want to do something else but have become so jaded I'm not sure what I want anymore.
