I feel defeated

I felt so happy and elated when I found out I got the job that I was really looking for, on a floor that was my passion. I feel defeated because one of the stipulations of the job was to have my RN license before aug 8th. I submitted my information to the board of nursing on time and everything was looking great. I called constantly checking progress of my endorsement.

I was told that I should have my license issued a couple days ago to today. When I called on my break today to see if it had been issued the person on the phone informed me that my background check info was never sent to the state police and fbi and they never had a record of it being received, however, I called and verified on multiple times that this information was there. I even went to the in person to make sure everything was there because I did not want any issues. I was told and assured that everything was there. So I was shocked to say the least when the person on the phone informed me of the situation. I asked how this was possible, person on the phone said they did not have any answers for me so I asked for her to make sure she was looking at the right person. It was confirmed she was indeed looking at my file. I was devastated.

I immediately went to my nurse recruiter in HR and described the situation, she was blown away and called the board and got the same story as I described. She then told my recruiter that if I resubmit all of my information that it will be completed in about 4 weeks. This basically voids the job offer that I was fortunate enough to have gotten. I have a final meeting with HR and my managers and the CNO tomorrow afternoon.

I just dont see how this can turn out well for me, the board of nursing told my recruiter that the earliest I could get my license was aug 29th. i am just sad that I will likely be fired from my first ever nursing job because of something that was completely out of my control.

I am so sorry this is happening. But I'm an optimist, and will believe that because you are already employed, this situation is out of your control, the hospital will work with you to stay on board. Good luck.

I was licensed, just not in the state. They were aware and knew that I would have to endorse over, and were ok with that. But the fact that me having to wait at least 3-4 weeks before I can do direct patient care may be the deciding factor where they say we have already wasted a weeks pay on this person. Better to stop now and call the next person on the list. Sorry I am just having a hard time being positive right now, I am honestly trying to not play the pity party card though :( just venting I suppose

It's completely understandable that you're feeling badly about all of this. Is there some place else in the hospital where you could do anything - filing, work as a CNA or gopher, just anything to ride out this time... It may not take as long as they told you :) And, it would be a waste to blow off a week of orientation. Maybe the infection control nurse needs help (seems they're always running around with stuff to do), or employee health..... if you suggest it, it might let them know how much you want to work THERE :)

It would seem to me that if they let you go after they put you through a week of orientation, went through the process of hiring someone else, then having to start anew with them.. they won't really be getting anyone started more than a week or so earlier than if they just waited for you. Makes more sense to just postpone your orientation until you get your license.

I agree. I think there is a reasonable chance that they will simply delay your orientation. If they start all over again with someone new, it will probably take a couple of weeks. They may as well wait for you, their 1st choice.

Don't lose all hope yet. You still have a shot. Don't give your chance away by declaring defeat too soon.

Don't lose hope! I was actually hired in Texas for my first nursing job, and 3 days before I was to drive from CA to TX I injured my shoulder bad enough to need surgery. I thought for sure they would tell me i had to let it go but instead they said they would hold the job for 8 weeks :)

unfortunately I had to let the job go due to licensure issues of my own which actually resolved today after 6 months of waiting but thats another sad story :/ but my point is they wanted you enough to hire you in the first place, I'm sure they still want you and obviously this is something beyond your control so I think there is a good chance that they will have a heart and hold it for you:redbeathe

Same thing happened to me.

I was hired as an RN after working for the same hospital as a CNA while I was in nursing school. Apparently, the FBI thought that my thumbprint was too smudged to read, and they rejected my prints. The BON didn't call, they sent me a letter stating that I would have to get another set of prints made, and that it would take another 6 weeks to process. I was supposed to start my job in July, and had to wait until September. I. Was. Furious.

Thankfully, my NM understood what happened and held onto my job for me. I bet your employer will do the same.

can you get your self on over to Boise and eyeball your file directly

I hope your employer gives you a pleasant surprize today. Good luck.

You will not lose your job; You will not be allowed to give meds or documentation, just shadow your preceptor. This is more common than you think.

I was thinking the same thing. Since they already invested time and money on orientation... if they are smart, they should keep you employed as CNA or unit secretary, until you obtain your license (speak with your current manager...you have nothing to loose).

Is the cup full or is it half empty? Stay strong friend.Where is your faith?

I said a prayer for you.

Well update on my situation, my nurse recruiter, manager, and CNO, all said they had my back and not to worry. They understand that it was not my fault and that I am keeping my job.
