Hey everyone.Trying to stand strong here. I have attempted nclex three times now and no success.
The first time in Sept 2007 83 questions. Studied using Kaplan online with the 7 question trainers no question bank.
2nd time Jan 2008: Had 89 questions. I studied be reading the saunders 3rd edition. I had not had enough time to complete the cd in the back.
3rd time Fri May 23rd: Had 78 Questions. I studied by doing the cd in the back of the saunder book. I did the entire cd and took notes on each area and reviewed al my notes and did about 5 exam modes and was scoring 75%. I found out today that I did not pass again. I studied real hard every day and applied myself by making sure I did questions and reviewed all the rationals on all the questions right and wrong ones.
This 3rd time I noticed the exam was much harder than my first and second time. I had 12 to 15 SATA Approx 20 meds I did not know only but like 3. Drag and drops 1. Priority and delegation atleast 15. Peds dosage calculation 2 and one adult. a few on infection control. Trouble shooting a ventilator. I even had a diagram that I has to select the correct area of what was asked. The questions ranged from peds to maternity to psychosocial and medsurg.....a little of everything. I was bombarded with very difficult procedures which I had never heard of. on the meds they asked side effects or with or without foods. imagine like its not hard enough to remember what the med is for as it is. I was discouraged to see the exam was so difficult and yet its suppose to be an entry level exam that test your competency. Entry level according to who? I've seen some people on here discuss a break down of their exam and I see some people get a group of questions that range from many priority with maybe 2 sata and 3 meds and thats it. Yet others get killed with 20 plus SATA and many meds. I mean to a certain point I feel its unfair although I understand this is a question bank that the questions are randomly selected.
Good Luck to all you guys sitting for this exam soon. Please do not underestimate the NCLEX as it can cover seriously anything even the areas you may think will not be covered.
STUDY HARD AND DON'T GIVE UP GUYS..... IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT BEING READY AND FEEL YOU NEED MORE TIME THEN EXTEND YOUR DATE. ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
God Bless you all.

That sounds like a crazy test!! Makes my head hurt just thinking about it. I had to take the nclex three times also and i tell ya I never got a drag and drop or one of those ones where you have to place the x. I only had one question on my last test that was somrthing I hade never heard of, and it was SATA. I think if you pass or fail sometimes can make a difference, bcause the second time I took it, it was pretty hard. But the third time I felt the answers were getting easier so when the computer shut off, I had knew I failed (not speculated) I had already started filing out my repeat papers, but luckily I passed. So hopefullyyour test and testing experience will be better. Once u pass all the anger and dissapointment will go away. Don't ever give up. Nclex is 50% knowledge and 50% luck. You just didn't get lucky this time.

God bless cubano! That's right, never give up on your dreams! I like your positive outlook...:nuke:
It somehow seem unfair you got all the difficult questions on your 3rd attempt while some passed with only a few SATA,prio and delegation questions...But NCLEX is NCLEX and the questions that the computer give us is beyond our control;nothing that we can do something about..
I'm wishing you the best and hopefully it won't be that hard next time..
Go beat that NCLEX!:yeah:

The SATA questions are only a format, they are not necessarily a higher level of question. Depends on the information that is being asked in those questions.
And you state that you did the questions from the CD, but how did you do them?
I am willing to help you but you will need to do things my way. Suggest that you read the sticky at the top of this forum for my first tip and see if you think that it will work for you.
All instructions are given there.
Best of luck to you and do not give up. You can do it.
Suzanne,
Thanks for your support. In response to your question. I studied from the Saunders CD by doing section per section in study mode so that I could see the rationale immediately and take notes on each question. I did this on a daily basis and did from 70 to 100 questions per day. All my notes are organized by topic and concise with question numbers in the event I needed to refer back. After preparing by doing all these questions and taking notes and reviewing my notes I would then do an exam mode on analysis level under section of integrated process so that it would include a little on everything and being higher level only as opposed to knowledge bases. In addition to using the Saunders CD I also purchased the Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment book by Linda A. Lacharity so that I would have exposure to to these types of questions and suffice practice with this question style which tends to be very popular. I am not sure if perhaps I experienced so much anxiety that I perhaps may have gotten blocked to some extent. Suzanne I am not lying when I state that the group of questions I got were pretty intense. I recall from my first experience sitting for the NCLEX that I didn't have the knowledge that I have now therefore I lacked content and I recognize it yet the first and second times I concluded my exam with 83 question the first time and 89 the second time. Now my 3rd time I have acquired much more knowledge and the exam stops at 78 questions?????? That should say something about how hard I was being hit.
In addition to all this my older brother who studied using this same exact method that I suggested to him sat for the NCLEX last month and passed it on his first attempt. I don't want to justify that the exam gets hard with each time at least I do not want to think this. however it was VERY discouraging to me that taking into account the dedication I put forth and desire of making this happen satisfactorily and BOOM the group of question were not in my favor one bit. It was disappointing. GOD knows how much I need this exam and all the inconveniences and barriers I have had to confront in order to continue with my dream. All to be set back for one TEST the "NCLEX".
To the others that have read my post.....Please by no means allow my experience with this exam be a dissuasive one. If anything just have sufficient knowledge and just don't be over confident. Give it the respect it deserves and for those that pass on their first shot many congrats to you and thank God you do not have to experience what I and many others who have prepared for this test repeated have to go through. It can honestly be emotionally draining and when the economical standpoint is a factor its only so much harder.
I want to say thank you to those that have responded to me and given me words of encouragement. Also thanks once again to Mrs. Suzanne who I am sure has helped so many on here and EVERYONE needs to be THANKFUL to her. From what I have read she does this unconditionally and not expecting anything in return but desiring success to each of us. DONT FORGET TO SAY THANK YOU TO HER AND ALL THOSE ON THIS SITE THAT IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER CONTRIBUTE THEIR efforts by way of sharing study information or wise TIPS.
Thank You everyone. I WILL NOT GIVE UP. My parents left communism for my brother and I to have a better life since we were small boys and despite their many sacrifices and obstacles they didn't let anything stop them. Neither will I nor should anyone else on here.
GO FOR YOUR DREAM~~~~ DONT ALLOW ANYONE SAY YOU CAN'T DO IT!!!

i was reading your post and sorry you had to go through that. i was wondering, did you read any of the test taking strategies that come after reading the rationale. i like this area and read both the rationale and test strategy because it helps me to train my brain how to think.
Each exam that ones writes has no bearing on the previous exams, the CAT format has no idea of anything about you. It assigns questions based on how you answered the previous questions, nothing more than that.
The key to passing the exam is to understand what the exam is looking for in an answer, nothing more than that. It is not interested in testing you on new material, but wants to know how you will use information that you already have in your brain. Or what you would do in a certain situation if you came across it and did not know anything about it.
That is why when I help someone that has tested before, they start their preparation all over again, right from the beginning as if they have never tested before.
You can get thru this exam, that is a definite. Take a week or two for yourself to just let your brain rest and then contact me via pm here. And thank you for the very lovely note, it is truly appreciated.

i too failed the exam on my first try. then i found out about ms. suzanne's plan and used this to study for my second time. thank you a million times ms suzanne!!
i also used the following strategies from kaplan. some of these strategies do work for the nclex and, if not, i chose the best answer (which usually means, which one will not kill the patient) safety first is the motto. hope these can help future nclex test takers.

I know how you feel, I did my exam also on the 23rd and no results yet. I had 15 SATA, 2 calculations, 1 peds, 10 pharm with 1 SATA on it too. I totally feel it was unfair. Yes, the exam was much more difficult than the last one I had. I don't know what to say, but right now as I wait for the results, I am just doing Q & A. Don't worry, I am sure we know better than before. We are more aware now how nasty that exam can get. It will be harder I am sure the next time, but who knows, we could get lucky.
