Hey everyone.Trying to stand strong here. I have attempted nclex three times now and no success.
The first time in Sept 2007 83 questions. Studied using Kaplan online with the 7 question trainers no question bank.
2nd time Jan 2008: Had 89 questions. I studied be reading the saunders 3rd edition. I had not had enough time to complete the cd in the back.
3rd time Fri May 23rd: Had 78 Questions. I studied by doing the cd in the back of the saunder book. I did the entire cd and took notes on each area and reviewed al my notes and did about 5 exam modes and was scoring 75%. I found out today that I did not pass again. I studied real hard every day and applied myself by making sure I did questions and reviewed all the rationals on all the questions right and wrong ones.
This 3rd time I noticed the exam was much harder than my first and second time. I had 12 to 15 SATA Approx 20 meds I did not know only but like 3. Drag and drops 1. Priority and delegation atleast 15. Peds dosage calculation 2 and one adult. a few on infection control. Trouble shooting a ventilator. I even had a diagram that I has to select the correct area of what was asked. The questions ranged from peds to maternity to psychosocial and medsurg.....a little of everything. I was bombarded with very difficult procedures which I had never heard of. on the meds they asked side effects or with or without foods. imagine like its not hard enough to remember what the med is for as it is. I was discouraged to see the exam was so difficult and yet its suppose to be an entry level exam that test your competency. Entry level according to who? I've seen some people on here discuss a break down of their exam and I see some people get a group of questions that range from many priority with maybe 2 sata and 3 meds and thats it. Yet others get killed with 20 plus SATA and many meds. I mean to a certain point I feel its unfair although I understand this is a question bank that the questions are randomly selected.
Good Luck to all you guys sitting for this exam soon. Please do not underestimate the NCLEX as it can cover seriously anything even the areas you may think will not be covered.
STUDY HARD AND DON'T GIVE UP GUYS..... IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT BEING READY AND FEEL YOU NEED MORE TIME THEN EXTEND YOUR DATE. ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
God Bless you all.
Hello, cubano30 I am sorry that this time you didn't pass, but just keep at it no matter what! I feel like I didn't pass either every time I read the posts on all of my fellow nurses trying and trying again, and I haven't even taken the nclex yet I m waiting for my ATT. I am reading and reading everyday. I just want you to know that there is no such thing as failure only obstacles that get in our way of our goals and achievements. You are probably thinking "yeah right that is easy for me to say because you haven't taken the test" but I really believe it. PLEASE do not get discouraged..Have you ever read about the universal Law of Attraction? it states that that which you give thought to enough will manifest...believe in your heart no matter what that you will walk down those hospital isles and be working as a nurse. Soon I too will be posting my own story of success or dare I say it ? Failure... no no such thing...keep at it. You will pass. Just think thousands of people have passed, why not you ..you are just as capable.
Preparation involves understanding what the exam is looking for in an answer, nothing more than that. That is the key to passing it.
If you were getting questions like that, then you were getting higher level questions. But they were still quite different from what you would see on a medical school exam.
Best of luck to you. I already told you that I am willing to help you pass this exam, but it is your choice as to what to do.
Hi Irish6363,
Hey there.. thanks for your words of wisdom. I wanted to share something very interesting with you. I was recommended a documentary tited: "The Secret" I purchased it through Amazon. Guess what??? Its based exactly on the concept you just mentioned about the Law of Attraction..... What you think you will attract. I want to share an interesting story with you. My brother tested for the NLCEX the of April. I had mentioned to him that he should watch the secret as a motivator the day before his exam. That day he was to watch it with me and I fell asleep and didnt watch it. He did finish seeing it. Well the next morning he had his exam and found it very difficult. The following night we found out he passed. That particular dvd was one that I had borrowed from my local library and a few days after my brothers exam I had to go return the movie and I never found the time to watch it. When the day came that I had to return it I accidentally left the dvd in its case and my wallet on the hood of my jeep and went into the house for something.. when I came out I took off forgetting what was on the hood. Sure enough I lost both items. A week later I received a letter from my local police station that they had my wallet and the dvd. Well I picked it up. I had ended up purchasing the movies via amazon I as I need to replace it. Well I ended up keeping the noe I bought and was suppose to watch it the day before my exam and again I did not find the time to watch it. Then BOOM after so much studying and I didn't make it... It did cross my mind call me superstitious if you want but I felt I was obligated to watch this movie prior to testing and I did not and therefore in part felt I was taught a lesson as I kept putting it off and the movie is exactly about that "The Law of Attraction" So although I still haven't seen it I will watch it very soon. By the way I agree strongly that we do attract what we believe in .
The best to you as well.

I would be interested in doing your program. I am taking a few days to clear my mind. I have already read your sticky 2008 and will follow that process first. I understand I am to begin all over again as though I had never done the Saunders Book. I will gain some mental strength and begin doing ch per ch and do these quizzes before I contact you for Step2.
I understand you will guide me in the right path granted I follow your plan the way it is intended.
I do have one question for you though. I mentioned in the thread about using the priority book for practice with these types of questions. Would you say its not in my best interest to redo this book since it gives good practice. When I did Saunders that type of question is not offered as much as I would have liked. I understand you mentinoed that your program is designed to be done with the use of the Saunders Comprehensive Book ONLY. My experience with Nclex has shown many of these priority questions. What do you suggest about this ?

Thank You for your words of encouragement. I'm able to retest in 45 days. However I will wait a little more to retake it. I was speaking with my brother about his experience and shared with him my same views about my impression with this exam. I too feel that some questions go beyond an entry level nurse's level. As if being tested for medical doctor. I also question myself as to why troubleshooting certain apparatus .. I recall the 2nd time I sat I was questioned about troubleshooting Cpm machine and now third about mechanical ventilators. So we have to be like Renaissance men... Know a little about everything.. Nursing/Mechanics.... The part that also kills me is that when I tool Kaplan it mentioned that we always put the patient first and according to Feur that NCLEX only cares about what the patient says not what the nurse has to say... and yet I got a question about the patients spouse and what I should ask that caregiver.... But no matter how much I may disagree with certain things or hear others experiences about how difficult it was for them at the end it will still be each of us to confront this on our own and it will be like this until we have proved ourselves. Its kind of sad when you learn so many conditions and different scenarios of approach and then you get questioned no things you never encountered in clinicals or in your studying. I kept asking myself on some questions "WHAT DO THEY MEAN" ? "WHAT TYPE OF PROCEDURE IS THAT " ?
How many times have you sat for this test and what method of studying have you used?
