I called in today, no I mean ..I called Out! / huh??

I have noticed some Nurses talk about "CALLING OUT" ( sick, ie..) and some say "CALLING IN" so interesting!!!!! is this like calling :D( for example) a Pepsi a "SODA" or a "POP" I live in the heart of the Midwest and we say "CallING-IN'

I mean..... you are calling-IN to your work place right? I know its trivial..........but I was just wondering....? :)

Grew up in NM and now in TX. I call in. But if I'm on-call, can get called in. Cancelled, or low censused or census'd. I drink coke no matter the brand. I eat submarine sandwiches. And it is PEA CON not PEA CAN

We call in sick. If we're called to stay home because of low census, we're cancelled.

And we don't drink soda or pop, we drink soft drinks.

LOL, this is a totally goofy and pointless thread (-aka- I LOVE it!) Here in Philly we say calling out. "Boy, you'd better not call out tomorrow!" (This is what I'm always saying to my always "sick" co-worker.) Calling off or calling in just sounds sooo... wrong, lol.

You know what else I noticed? When people refer to their place of employment as their "work" and not their "job". "So and so came by totally unannounced to my work today." The first time I heard this was on The Hills and I was like... girl, don't you mean your "job"? Lol, different strokes... Who else calls it their "work"?

I like this thread as well. Refreshingly free of the usual snippiness and overly defensive atttitudes so many other threads have.

I hear people refer to "my work" as in "I'm going to swing by my work and pick up my paycheck this morning." I've used it in that context myself. I've also said "at my job the other day" or "I was at work when that happened." So I guess all three are interchangeable. No idea why, It just works out that way.

Minnesota and I have only heard "call-in". As in "We had 2 call-in's for tonight and now we are short staffed.".
