Need to vent just a moment. Just found out that the nurses on the unit are fighting over which shift gets the sandwiches a doctor sent them. Fighting over sandwiches...and they wonder why nurses don't get respected!

We are NEVER going to be respected as a profession until this kind of ******** stops! Fighting over sandwiches!
Edited to say - I repeated exactly what the original poster said- oh well - I meant it!

Forget the sandwiches...where is the free pass to the local spa or masseuse? Ah and what happened to those really nice christmas dinners you could bring your spouse to? Had a live band and excellent food.....

Listen, the sandwiches obviously belong to night shift, since we always get shafted on the goodies!
What ever happened to people who didn't take themselves way too seriously. If you think immaturity isn't present in other proffesions, such as finance and education you are sorely misinformed.

I think nurses get respected, well most of the time.......the only problem I encounter with disrespect is with some of the patients family members. This week was a real challenge in that respect but I have to say that our Doctors are wonderful and do not put up with the patients or family members mistreating the nurses. We have a color-coded mailbox system to pick up our new orders processed during the shift. The charge nurse assigns the colors. I just go in order of the assignment. Pretty simple. The next shift does not use the mailbox system, if though they've been told they have to, because according to the charge nurse they fight over who's going to be what color. Oh give me a break! It's a good thing I'm not the nurse manager because that shift would be short about half of the staff if I had my way. Oh well. I'm happy on my shift so I just be quiet and do my job.

I think I have seen more fights on food than anything...here's my story...doctors will generally bring in left over sandwiches, salads, desserts, etc from their meetings on certain days of the week...to be shared with EVERYBODY on the unit (nice of them really). Heres the kicker. There was a note posted in the unit stating that when staff (nurses) bring in food, they feel upset because other people (docs) take it as well....talk about selfish. What happened to a family atmosphere where we work?????

I agree. It's bad enough to be happy to get the scraps, but fighting over them as well? How sad.
