Hurst Live Review preparation.....

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I graduated from nursing school a few weeks ago and I am scheduled to take a HURST 4 day Live Review next week. Would like to hear from others who have taken the Hurst Live Review - I understand that the review doesn't cover pharmacology, is that correct? Also, did you feel prepared once you did the review to immediately take the NCLEX?? Just trying to come up with a "plan" for myself and also make sure I am well prepared to pass the NCLEX the first go around........ :0)

You will need to prepare on your own besides attending the live review. Review courses are only designed to get you started. Good luck.

Yes- I understand I have to prepare on my own, hence, that was why I asked the question. I would like to hear from someone who has taken the review on what areas they suggest I spend more time on studying that is only briefly gone over or absent from the Hurst review. My goal is to "study smart" for the NCLEX............

The Hurst review will give you plenty of material to study on your own besides what you get in lecture. I understand your problem, with all this material what should be your focus? What you need to focus on are the broad concepts of nursing care. The NCLEX is designed for new nurses, so don't get caught up in the details. Be competent in delegation, isolation precaution, know psych medications and schizophrenia signs, patient safety, diabetes (teaching, insulins, complications), televised drugs, diagnostic procedures (aminocentesis etc.), development milestones-these are things you better know. Not a complete list but a quick observation. Good luck with Hurst!

The hurst reveiw is good as going on core content and getting your brain rewired to think like a new nurse and attack the questions. I also used saunders book, because it outlined everything...and was great for reinforcement. I did it for three weeks hurst a week saunders a week then 3 days of saunders 2 days of hurst. for 2-3 hours a day. Nothing else. I Had mosby cards and I did like 10 of thoses cards a week. and 50 cd questions from saunders a day. Its all in how you attack the questions. The best answer to keep the patient alive. Also look at different format of questions, since the board of nursing went to a new test this spring....every so many years it changes. REMEMBER ITS NOT A PHARM EXAM...so relax...and know your core material.

Thanks to all of you for the great information!! :0) It really helps (and sets my mind at ease a bit that I am on the "right path" of studying)..... I have been doing the Hurst online review the last couple of days and will start my LIVE review on Tuesday for 4 days. I will take all your suggestions and "run with it".......... :0) Many, many thanks!!

They integrate pharmacology throughout the review. Also, they have plenty of pharm for you to review on the online suite which comes with your review. Plenty.

I felt more confident about NCLEX once I was done with Hurst. It was a good review of content and a good primer on thinking critically for the test. Knowledge alone with not get you through that exam, and they are honest enough to stress that point.

I scheduled my NCLEX for two weeks after Hurst review and studied for about six hours a day except Sundays. I studied Hurst material, ATI, Prentice Hall, and Davis. YMMV.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement! I passed the NCLEX and just accepted a position as a Labor & Delivery nurse today! :0)

Congratulations!

Congrats!!! How well do you feel like hurst prepared you? I'm doing hurst as well and taking the nclex for the first time in early july

gcat626 - I felt Hurst fully prepared me for the NCLEX. I took the NCLEX 1 week after I did the Hurst live review. I reviewed my Hurst book a few times and did the 750 practice questions - that was all I did to prepare for NCLEX. The majority of my class has already taken the test and everyone has passed - and they all took the Hurst review as well! Good luck!! :0)
