Hurst and then Kaplan

Published

Hello friends,

I have a quetion or advise to ask,

I failed my NCLEX on the first try and now are getting back in track of studying on weak areas and what not.

I noticed that i needed some content and also strategy, so i decided to do Hurst first all lectures to refresh and then Kaplan for question strategy to prepare to retake.

Can someone tell me if they have used the same strategy and if they have, has this worked for you ?

I just reviewed the Electrolyte and Fluids and Orthopedics because i am terrible in those, and i felt like i had forgotten so much ferom school already.

Anyway, after the review i felt like i understood so much more.

Thank you

Deimys

natasha 645 my classmate bought the hurst book didn't help her as much so she failed first time..second time she bought the review.. it depends if your weak on contents they provide you videos, 5th day materials, 6 exams of 125 questions.. if you feel not as weak in contents and you need strategy I suggest the Kaplan strategy book. Good luck!

i gladly didnt have to buy the review i friend of mine did and gave us all his login for hurst but i am so glad that he did because it has helped understand NOT meorize things which is what i was doing before and it is too much to memorize you have to understand why a person w/ Hyperthyroidism has weight loss, has altered vitals, and things like that, you have to understand the underlying issue with everything in order for the sx to make sense, at least i had too, there is just too much, while i was in nursing school i was good at memorizing but for nclex purposes b/c they actually want you to analyze and nursing school wasnt like that, i had to review content on a differnt new level , so hurst is really really good in putting EVERYTHING at a good perspective.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, i have 5 days left, well technically 4 b/c i cant count the day of , so i still have to review qtrainer6 and take qtrainer 7 . i havent done muhc of the qbank questions but after i review the 3 weak areas i think i will take a 30 question qbank on each to see how i do.

I will come back to post my results for qtrainer 7 and those weak areas.

and lastly i do hope to come back with a BIG BIG PASS comment next week :)

Goodluck everyone on you nclex!! Just wanted to let you guys know, I just borrowed my friends hurst book. (Didn't attend the review/did online review course) I read that plus purchased the kaplan qbank only. My advice is to do 85-100/day and to make sure you read your rationales. During my nclex, I hid the box that tells me which question I was on. (Just to reduce my anxiety) I also prayed and meditated before I took my test. Let me tell you, I blanked out on my first question. So I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and told myself I could do this!! I finally checked my box once and I was on question 96. (I tried to keep calm and meditated for a sec again) 3 questions later, my computer stopped! :) Don't let your anxiety get the best of you! It can mentally block info. Good luck everyone and make sure to pray!! ;)

I am assuming you already passed obviously, that is great! Congrats and thank you on wishing us good luck. I retake mine in 2 days. I believe i have studied enough all the way on my second try. I am currently taking qtrainer 7 265 questions, imagine, very tiring. On my break because i had to step away from the computer at question 100. I also pray alot, it has helped me keep calm and believe that I know this and I deserve to be nurse ! I know God has been with me and will be with me on test day as he has been with many of us.

I also have developed this strategy of writing 1 2 3 4 and i read the qwuestion and then start crossing out what i dont think is the right answer once i know what i am looking for. It has seemed to help me on not going back to the same answers and changing my mind, if i knew it was wrong at first, it will still be wrong if i look at it again. It helps on not changing my answers and possibly getting it rihgt.

Still suck at those SATA scary since i only have 2 days left. It happens to me that either i pick one more or one less :( :( :(

Anyway, i will keep eveyone posted on my question trainer 7 results :)

[COLOR=#003366]deimysd.vigil my friend took her nclex second attempt past Friday she passed with 75 Questions and she had only few SATA and majority of her questions were priority!! Stay positive and keep us updated...we all want be wonderful RN soon :)

hmahdoui:

Hi, i just took my qtrainer 7 and got a 57.7%, very discouraging since i take my test in a day pretty much (this wednesday) i had physiological, basic care and pysh, and pharm under 60% agian.

What do i do? should i reschedule for another week? it just made me feel like i am not ready

deimysd.vigil do not reschedule your test date.. 57.7 still good! I remember when I failed first time my score were 50% so you did good.. remember the board mostly priority, infection & disease so review priority questions from PDA book and review labs and also you can go thru things you need to be sure about it.. make sure you take your time during the board.. read the questions carefully and read the answers understand what their asking and do not change your answer.. breathe and stay focused and pray :)

hmahdoui:

dont mean to dissapoint you but i ended up rescheduling. i took qtrainer 7 over a course of 2 days, thats not ok. So i plan to retake it today and see what i stand. I will only review what im low on from now on. and will review what i feel i am still weak on. I take it now next thursday, i know its not what i wanted either, but at least its just a week away and it will give me time again to regain my confidence. I dont plan on taking qtrainer 7 again near my test date b/c this really put me down yesterday. I want to make sure i go to that test highly confident and knowing that i have done everyhting that i can to pass this test. What's one more week right?

Thank you for all your support, you have been great.

I will update my retake of qtrainer 7 later today and will go from there :)

deimysd.vigil I've been keeping up with this thread and I think you made a good choice, I think you are brave for rescheduling 1wk from today, if it was me I'd probably not want to test until 1 more month, but that wouldn't be right. Do whatever it takes to go in there with confidence! I'm testing in november, I already did hurst, I'm now reading kaplan strategies. Please keep posting!
[COLOR=#003366]deimysd.vigil you didn't reschedule it too far from the test which is good!! Keep us posted and make sure you review the PDA book for priority that's most of the exam!! Good luck!

hmahdoui and carrotcake:

Thank you two for the encouragement. I did not want to reschedule too far either, i retook Qtrainer 7 and i got a 60% but i retook it yesterday while my kids were at school which gave me silence, had i known that i was going to do better, i would have taken it today, but i do want to go in very confident. So next Thursday it is :) plan on reviewing rationals for qtrainer 7 and going over my weak parts, which were :

This is how my qtrainer 7 was broken down, so i have to brush up on the ones bellow 60.

And i do plan on spending the rest of the week doing SATA questions, and Priorities, theyre the highest ones anyway, will be doing lots of prayers and pray to God on the day of the exam as well, because through him I have been able to stay calm while taking my practice tests, I owe it all to him so far, and I know that he will be with me on Thursday too, Will keep you all posted. :)
