Hurst and then Kaplan

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello friends,

I have a quetion or advise to ask,

I failed my NCLEX on the first try and now are getting back in track of studying on weak areas and what not.

I noticed that i needed some content and also strategy, so i decided to do Hurst first all lectures to refresh and then Kaplan for question strategy to prepare to retake.

Can someone tell me if they have used the same strategy and if they have, has this worked for you ?

I just reviewed the Electrolyte and Fluids and Orthopedics because i am terrible in those, and i felt like i had forgotten so much ferom school already.

Anyway, after the review i felt like i understood so much more.

Thank you

Deimys

Reduction of Risk potential I had above passing... My advise since you have Hurst review watch the Lab and ABG online videos those helped me to pass this category.. and review priority and infection.. make sure as soon you get the board to write from write all the labs and ABG values.. Good luck and keep up posted and stay positive plz :)

thank you, but i just went on it and i dont see those videos, maybe i can find them online, and i dont know why i keep getting that area low because i am almost good with all my labs and infection from that sheet rolling around with the MTV and Spiderman and MRS WEE isolation, i think its silly stuff like (worker with Hep A, should they work or be sent home)

and i usually pick sent home because you are thinking about pt's safety first right.....

But i am staying positive :) thank you so muchm

By the way when do you take yours?

deimysd.vigil yup! always think about patient safety very true and physical over psychosocial.. Plz do stay positive!!

I am taking mine on November because I am still doing Kaplan then I will do 3 weeks NCBSN!!

hmahdoui I am also testing in november! I am now reading the kaplan strategies book I'm on chapter 8, finished hurst last week, and I am thinking to do the ncsbn after I'm done with the strategies book, are you only going to do the questions for the ncsbn or also the content? what are you doing from kaplan? I also plan on doing the pda lacharity, has really good reviews on amazon. And to top it off I will do the qtrainers from kaplan that are free online! Happy studying!!

deimysd.vigil I'm having the same trouble as you with infection control, it is silly that all the other hard stuff I get it right and then infection control which is easy I get wrong. I say if you still have time focus on questions in that area and get them right, so when you go into the test you tell yourself I know this stuff, nclex lady pls give me infection control that stuff is easy

carrotcake I finished Hurst videos content and I am still watching the videos while doing Qbanks! I also finished the Kaplan strategy book but now I am doing Qbanks for Kaplan I didn't start yet with Qtrainers I am doing something different from first time listening to Hurst videos like physicological and then do questions.. Listen to Psychosocial then do questions. I finished 40% of Qbanks now.. Pysocosocial average 68% and Physiological average 62%.. then I will do Qtrainers all of them, then I will do NCBSN for 3 weeks too.. I do have PDA book will be my last thing to do few days before my board since majority questions are priority! I am staying positive to pass in my second attempt! Good luck to you! we can do it :)

hmahdoui You have a really good plan! I'm doing very similar plan to yours! I think I'm going to do the same as you and read the pda book a wk before the test, and finish the qtrainers before the pda book, do you think it is possible to finish it in one wk, makes sense to do them right before the test since those questions are passing level, I will be testing on the 21st of nov, wish I could postpone but I can't since my att expires, I just have all these things to study. How do you feel about the questions from hurst? That is the only thing I haven't done from hurst.
carrotcake I am testing almost same time too!! My friend who passed recently with her second attempt she advised me to do the PDA book a week from the exam since those questions are the majority of the exam (priority questions). Hurst review I am using my friend but I will go over those questions.. Kaplan Qbanks/Qtrainers my priority for now then NCBSN for 3 weeks! Trust me you have plenty time but just keep studying consistently and I have a notebook I write all the questions I get them wrong and I go over them before I go to bed! Good luck and stay in touch!

[COLOR=#003366]deimysd.vigil Good morning, I thought of you! I know your testing this coming Thursday!

How is it been going? how do you feel? GOOD LUCK! you got this :) update us please and remember you practiced enough and you know so much but take your time and read each questions carefully!

hmahdoui:

Hi and thank you thank you so much for caring this much, it is very weird how a person from the internet can have so much impact on you, and you have impacted me tremendously, so thank you for caring, i will be giving you the same support throughout this time and will come back to share my experience with all of you.

Well so far, yes i am starting to get a bit nervous but not much oddly, not much like i was before.

2 days away, and i have been taking qbanks from Kaplan of only 30 questions of each category and so far i have been getting above 70% on most of them. I have taken all the psych questions and i never got bellow 60, i took 90 questions on psych and it went first 30 i got a 60%, the second 30 i got 70%, the third 30 i got 73.3%. So i figured i was feeling much better on the psych, now i took the safety and infection control and i got 86.7% so i believe i am comfortable in that aspect. I took the 30 Priority question RN Sample test on kaplan and got 86% for "Who Do You See First"? i am hoping i get LOTS of those " :)

i want to relook at basic care and comfort, Healthcare maintenance, and Pharm today along with the Test Taking Workshop i am listening to from Kaplan. I am feeling good about this one.

So here is a breakdown of all my qtrainers:

"here are my results for all Qtrainers when i retook them : Qtrainer 1-69.3

Qtrainer 2-65.8

Qtrainer 3-73

Qtrainer4-68

Qtrainer 5-60.7

Qtrainer 6-66.7

Qtrainer -(retook)- 60.0

I hope that means something, my grades def went up from the first time i took them back in july.

I have been praying alot lately, specially since its coming soon, because i want God to know that I am confident but i still need his blessing. This time i am doing this so i can show him i am worthy of a nurse and i will be a great one, and I know he will be there with me that day :)

I will keep you all updated, :)

Thanks everyone who has been reading my posts, you all are so so supporting!!!

Have a blessed Tuesday!

deimysd.vigil your grade are good! I am glad you still practicing and doing questions! Keep reviewing and remember to rest a day before the exam which is tomorrow you can always review labs, infection & control! I'll keep you in my prayer stay positive and take your time during the exam!! It's like another practice exam ;) GOOOOOOD LUCK!!!!
