I graduate in May from ADN program and I'm getting ready to register for review course. I need opinions for Hurst and Kaplan, people who have had experience not just what they've heard from people. I've listen to hurst lectures before and love them but Kaplan has come to our campus to talk to us which made me wonder who to choose.

Kaplan, Kaplan, Kaplan! I took Kaplan and really thought that it helped with the nclex. I feel that it helps with the critical thinking necessary to pass the nclex. I've also listened to Hurst review and thought that it was fantastic for helping me connect content but as far as questions for the nclex, Kaplan is good. You need to know what specific areas you are weak in and Kaplan breaks those areas down. For instance, I knew that I was weak in health promo and main because I wasn't meeting the specific benchmarks for those. I would then go and watch content videos on Kaplan and follow along with the book. You want to be efficient with studying and know that you can't possibly learn everything but you can critically think to the right answer. Then again it depends on your preference because there are others who have just taken Hurst review and passed. You have to decide if you want more content based or more question based and then make your decision from there. Hope this helps somewhat because they are both good programs.
Thanks so much I didn't think about the question based or content based and I like the question breakdown Better. Appreciate it :)

I actually had access to both online Kaplan and hurst.
Here is my review comparing the two.

I did the hurst live review but also bought the kaplan's NCLEX strategies book from Barn's and Nobles ... The book was helpful on a few questions but overall; I felt hurst did a better job since many of the questions are content based even though it's not regurgitated info..You must know content and understand critical thinking because of this, I found them both helpful for different reasons..

I would definitely do Kaplan. I took Hurst and even though it would be good for learning while in nursing school it doesn't go into that much as far as fundamentals. The NCLEX tests on a broad spectrum of knowledge which included alot of fundamentals and "smaller" stuff like stomas, impetego etc.-yes of course you need to know cardivascular but if you skipped the "smaller fundamental stuff then you won't pass" Do a million questions which is what Kaplan gives you. I can almost say for certain that if I had only focused on Hurst like they emphasize then I most certainly would have failed the NCLEX. Focus on questions! questions! questions! and definitely take the time to read the rationales which are equally if not more important.

I know that the overall sentiment is answering 1000's questions which kaplan is good for but after taking Nclex just last weekend I think that it is more about a good knowledge foundation...I read the Kaplan Nclex review book and it will help...focus on the meds there...it will come in handy for the test!!
