Hunter College Psych NP (PMHNP) 2024

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I applied to Hunter College's (in NYC) PMHNP program on 12/2023. This is to start fall 2024. I am wondering if there are others who have applied. My application status so far says "submitted". I am waiting for either rejection or appointment to be set up for an interview. Just to give a little info on information used to apply.

My experience:

1.5 years of MED SURG experience

1.5 years of psych inpatient experience (in hospital)

About 5-6 years of total nursing experience

BSN 3.5 GPA CUNY School

ADN 3.2 GPA CUNY school

2 Letters of recommendation. One from my Nurse manager in my psych inpatient unit. The other from the attending (MD) on that same inpatient unit.  Not sure if this is a strong enough application but I wanted to share for transparency. I will be updating this forum if I get any news of rejection or acceptance.

I took a stats class while getting my ADN and a research class in my BSN (capstone).

Hi!

I just received my admission to Hunter - PMHNP today around 12pm to start this Fall 2024. Admissions closed on March 1st. I got into Rowan as well, I really like both, but considering I work in NYC I think I will go for Hunter.

Extremely happy that they accepted me! Looking forward to start this fall :)

Do you mind sharing your GPA and experience just to get an idea what the program needs? Thank you!

Excited to say I was accepted today! Yeehawww!

I have a 4.0 GPA in nursing school and 3.6 GPA from undergrad (I have two bachelor degrees). Two years non-psych bedside nursing experience.

According to their website hunters pmhnp program is 3 years full time now - does anyone know more detail about this? Like why so long and is it possible to complete it in less time and is it possible to work full time while in school full time? Other programs I've seen are 3 semesters full time.

CONGRATS!

they said you can do it quicker but its unusual for anybody to do it faster than 3 years. this is for the PMHNP program. not the certificate add on. 3 semesters is impossible in any school. It is 48 credits for Hunter program and most programs are around the same amount of credits.

Congrats !
I just got accepted too!
My BSN GPA 3.7 master's in nursing(Hunter) 3.69

No psych experience.

Yay

I was so nervous since I have no psych experience.

Specializes in Psychiatric, Primary Care, Harm Reduction.

Of course,

All my education is from Barcelona, Spain where I am from. I have 10+ years of nursing experience, mostly in psych, functional diversity, substance use and Primary Care. My GPA is 3.6 from undergraduate (BSN in Nursing + BSc in Psychology) and 3.6 for my MSc (Master in Medical Anthropology).

I also did some volunteer work as a nurse in Morocco and lived in Spain, Ireland and now NY.

I sent 4 letters of recommendation from the three countries I lived in.

Also, they required IELTS as my studies are in a foreign language, and I was lucky to have a pretty high score in my English exam 8.5 out of 9.

Hope that helps :)! Best of  luck with Stony Brook!

I just received an acceptance letter this morning! I accepted, can't wait to start in the Fall.

Hi guys! Also just got accepted to Hunter's Psych NP Program.

Does anyone know how often classes are in person and how many days a week classes are offered?

and how does it work with clinical rotations? Is it difficult to find placement?

Attached is example of schedules. One credit classes are online and the 3 credit course (most of them) are in person once or twice a week.

You will have to find your own preceptor. They said they can reach out to past preceptors for other students and try to help but you should really look for your own they said.

Specializes in case management, health education.

ME! applied 2/29/24 last minute as I was debating about starting program while still working full time. still waiting for response.

7 year nursing experience working for corrections department.

along side of 3 recommendations

so lets see where this goes!

For those who are accepted and planning to start this Fall - Has anyone reached out regarding orientation? So far the instructions for what we do next seem a bit vague but I assume we'll hear more soon. I know they are working on setting up CUNY accounts for us too.
