Humber College Second Entry (2015)

Published

Figured I would start this thread so we can get some discussions going. I'm starting the Humber Second Entry program this September (2015). Pretty excited, also a bit worried about this 74% cut-off.

Who else is going to join me in the craziness of this program??

Hey!

I will also be joining you all :)

So this may be kind of a dumb question, but how exactly do the semesters work for this program? Is it fall (prep semester), then spring, summer, fall, spring, summer? Or is the last summer semester actually in the fall?

Finally got that offer!

I second rainyd's question.

Awesome! Welcome. We're slowing coming together as a Humber crew.

I have gotten mixed answers. I've been told it's like 2.4 years straight through, no breaks. I've also been told there is like a 3 month break in the middle. I don't actually know either, which is a bit crazy haha.

There is open house this weekend on Saturday. I'm definitely going. Hopefully I will be able to get some clearer answer and let you all know.

Hey everyone!

I went to the open house and found out that the program, including the prep semester, is seven semesters straight. The last semester (so Sept 2017 for us) is just working in a hospital with a preceptor. I was told this is the first time they are using this schedule; before there used to be a summer semester off. But I kind of like this way better - it means we can become paid nurses sooner! And there are still short breaks between semesters.

I was accepted into the program a couple weeks ago, but aside from info on how to accept the offer, I haven't received any info on what to do next or how to prepare for Sept. Has anyone received a list or something regarding CPR, police check, etc?

I applied today, super late and my GPA is around a 2.5 but my high school average is a 90%. I am transferring from another nursing school and hopefully I am accepted into this 2nd entry program. I see there aren't a lot of active members in this forum for Humber hopefully that changes up soon!

I also wanted to know if there is an overview of the courses broken down for each semester. Also what is the average you must maintain for each nursing course. i know that you need a 74% in each of the prep courses, but what about the nursing courses. Also is there anyone that can tell me the level of difficulty for each of the prep courses.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm in the year ahead of you for this program so I'll try and provide some info... (because Humber sucks at giving info).

My year is also doing the 7 semesters straight through with no breaks, but I know the year ahead of me had one summer off.

You'll receive info on the stuff you need for clinical later on (CPR, police check, mask fit, immunizations etc)...don't worry too much about it yet because you won't start clinical until January next year. Once you get the info get started on your immunization records etc right away because those can take a while (especially if you need to get boosters or extra immunizations).

You need a 60% in every nursing class. The prep courses are not difficult at all, there were only a few people who didn't achieve the 74%. Definitely easier than the actual nursing classes so far.

Also...why is this thread listed under Online Nursing Schools and Colleges haha

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to know how are you graded for the prep courses. Is it just multiple choice exams, is there group presentations, attendance marks, etc.

Patho and microbio were all multiple choice exams, anatomy was multiple choice for the lecture and the labs were bell-ringers, stats had midterm/final/quizzes/assignments and I'm not too sure about psych because I didn't take it (although I know it was online so I'm guessing some multiple choice?)
