I haven't seen anyone start a thread about applying for this year's HRSA scholarships. I am waiting to see if I am accepted into a school in IL (fingers crossed!) and then I am going to start my application process for HRSA. The program I am applying to is a 16 months ABSN that starts in august! what about you all?
Have you been accepted some where yet? Still in the application process? Already started the Scholarship application?
I have a little predicament and wish I can get some advice on here. I got a countersignature back on Sept 8 but still have yet to receive an email stating the amount. Today my school called me stating that I have been awarded a 40k scholarship for my program which is great. Now I believe it's better for me to accept the scholarship from my school and not do NurseCorp anymore. Although I will have a balance of 16k to pay (since the program is 56k) I think it makes more sense for me to accept my school's scholarship and not have to be bound to working for a lesser wage at a NurseCorp approved facility after I graduate.
My question really is can I decline the Nurse Corp award once they send me an email? Or am I contractually binded now that my contract is signed? Again, I still have yet to receive an email.

I don't know, I would say the best thing to do is get in touch with them and ask if you can withdraw. There are so many people that want the scholarship, I would think they would be willing to offer it to someone else.
That is really amazing about your scholarship, and that you also got HRSA, too! Way to go, whatever happens :]

Congratulations on getting both scholarships. That is truly a blessing. If I were you, I would go with the 40K you got from your school as well. If you have the ability to pay the remaining balance obtaining grants or loans, then go for that. Call HRSA and let them know your situation. They haven't awarded anyone so I don't think it would affect you as it's still kind of early. Well good luck with your future endeavors.

People are still getting finalist emails. They have until 9/30 to notify us. Many finalist still have not had their counter signatures either. So most of us are in the waiting game.

Why not keep both scholarships?

HRSA isn't going to overpay so you can't end up with more money. Also, why would you take the Nurse Corps scholarship and sign to 2 years of service if it's only going to cover a small portion of your tuition when you got a scholarship that covers more AND you don't have to commit?
Hello,
I wanted to ask more info regarding the finalists for the scholarship, my contract was signed on Sept 8 by HRSA but my status still says “in final review”. Is that how it is? If so, when do you think it will change status and we will receive further indication on when to pay our school etc? Thanks in advance !
