HRSA 2021-2022

Updated:   Published

I haven't seen anyone start a thread about applying for this year's HRSA scholarships. I am waiting to see if I am accepted into a school in IL (fingers crossed!) and then I am going to start my application process for HRSA. The program I am applying to is a 16 months ABSN that starts in august! what about you all?

Have you been accepted some where yet? Still in the application process? Already started the Scholarship application?

I have a little predicament and wish I can get some advice on here. I got a countersignature back on Sept 8 but still have yet to receive an email stating the amount. Today my school called me stating that I have been awarded a 40k scholarship for my program which is great. Now I believe it's better for me to accept the scholarship from my school and not do NurseCorp anymore. Although I will have a balance of 16k to pay (since the program is 56k) I think it makes more sense for me to accept my school's scholarship and not have to be bound to working for a lesser wage at a NurseCorp approved facility after I graduate.

My question really is can I decline the Nurse Corp award once they send me an email? Or am I contractually binded now that my contract is signed? Again, I still have yet to receive an email.

Why do you think you would be working for a lesser amount? Nurse corps has nothing to do with what you will be paid. But I will say if you can afford the 16k then take the school scholarship. At least you will be able to work wherever you want when you are done.

I checked my portal today and I now see "participant" under roles but I have not received an email or anything nor can I activate the account yet. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm getting so worried, I turned in my paperwork on August 10th and I seem to be one of the only ones who has not received a countersignature. My role is still applicant as well. I think I'm going to call them.

I’m with you - I got my finalist email on august 6th….nothing has changed. Im

not calling because the operators who answer the phone just basically have the same info we have - they’ll just read you a script and don’t have access to our specific cases, so in the end it’s just more frustration. They’ll tell you exactly this: everyone will be notified of awards by September 30th. As for me, I had to resubmit my W4 at the end of August, and my university had to change my entire program from mostly PT to FT and resubmit paperwork to reflect that - that is why I’m suspecting mine is taking so long, it was a little complicated and I had been in direct contact with admins at HRSA on the phone (not just operators). I’m trying to relax but I TOTALLY feel your anxiety as well - it’s hard to focus when so much hinges on this, but all we can do for now is wait, just 13 more days!!

I am in the same boat, got my notification 8/6, turned in the paperwork that same day, have yet to get a signature. When I called, they just tell me to continue to wait, unfortunately. I have seen some other people who turned in their COI paperwork around the same time, also without signatures...I am wondering if there is a connection. LOL, I feel like I am getting conspiratorial over here with all this waiting!! (>_<)

Can someone please answer what comes after the OFAM approved signing your application and your status saying “in final review”? Does that mean you got the scholarship? or does the status have to change to “participant/finalist” for you to have the scholarship?

Hi,

From what I have read on the threads from previous years, you are very likely to be awarded once you have the contract countersigned. I saw one person who said they did not get the award after having a countersignature, but that seemed like an anomaly. My understanding is that people's portals start to change over to participant sometime in the last week of September, not automatically after you get the counter signature. Hope that helps.

Hi all,

I just wanted to take a quick survey of people who are "In Final Review" but have not gotten a countersignature on their contract. Is anyone else in this boat? What date were you notified you were a finalist?

For me, it was 8/6, and I have heard nothing since then.

Also, I just wanted to say: congrats to all the people who have gotten signatures, etc, and to everyone that hasn't, thank you also. I really appreciate how kind everyone is on these forums. There have been some really sweet exchanges, and I love to see it.(-_-)<3

I think nursing school should not be as expensive as it is, but I applaud everyone for being so determined and hardworking. Ya'll deserve all the good things coming your way. ;-*

Thank you @barb_patterson

I was emailed to be a finalist on 8/19 turned in my paperwork 8/23 (had to wait for my school to give me their paperwork) and according to the contract, had the OFAM approved counter sign 9/8. My status still says “in final review” though. I’m wondering if by 9/30 everyone’s status is supposed to change

Hi, everyone!

I'm an applicant for the Nurse corps scholarship for this term. I also applied to the program last year, but I did not receive it. I am hopeful in the process this go round, and I look forward to hearing back.
Last year, I got the denial email on September 17, so hopefully we know something by then! I do know that some people found out as early as July! Crossing my fingers. I’m currently in an ABSN program  pursuing women’s health.

Thank you for sharing and the best of luck this year! It says I am a finalist right now but I still haven’t got the final go yet. Did they tell you that you were a finalist before you got  the denial last year?  Or were you ever a finalist last year?

Hello,

I wanted to ask more info regarding the finalists for the scholarship, my contract was signed on Sept 8 by HRSA but my status still says “in final review”. Is that how it is? If so, when do you think it will change status and we will receive further indication on when to pay our school etc?  Thanks in advance !

I’m in the same boat … in final review still and I’m shaking in my boots.
