07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Notification

Published

Has anyone received notification about whether or not they got an 07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship yet? (I know it says late-september)

If you are on the first funding tier has your file been reviewed? Mine says no review has been done on it yet and I turned everything in on time. I have already called the folks at HRSA and they just said wait...

I was joking about it because it seems that nowadays everything is transmitted via email, text messaging or faxes. Thank you though

well,

if i don't get this scholarship i am going to apply for the health professional loan repayment and scholarship that is offered by washington state.

http://www.hecb.wa.gov/paying/waaidprgm/health.asp

this is one of the better alternative deals that is on the same general level as the hrsa scholarship. it opens in january and the forms are due by april. the good thing is there is no washington state residency requirement and you can be attending any rn program in the us.

the health professional loan repayment and scholarship programs were created to attract and retain health professionals to serve in critical shortage areas in washington state.

the loan repayment program provides educational loan repayment assistance to licensed primary care health professionals.

the scholarship program provides financial assistance to students training to become primary care health professionals. eligible professions:

  • physician (md or do) (loan repayment also includes nd)
  • physician assistant or nurse practitioner
  • licensed nurse (any licensed level) (scholarship also includes faculty)
  • midwife (certified-nurse or licensed)
  • pharmacist
  • dentist
  • dental hygienist

in return for financial assistance, participants in both programs agree to provide primary care health care in rural or underserved urban areas with designated shortages for a minimum of three years.

I am a received the scholarship award on last year and they will award in October. It will be worth the wait, because they back pay from August. I think that I received about 3000.00 plus the 1 time living allowance for books, which brought everything to be about 4000.00..The only thing is that if you have received a student loan and was given a refund after your fees were paid. You will not be able to submit payment reimbursement for this semester.

Really!?! So if this semester is already paid for by loans ($8,000) I will not get tuition money and not be able to give the loan company back their $8,000?

Just wanted to say I haven't heard back from HRSA either. I had a HUGE mess with those two forms they gave us 2 days to get in a few weeks ago. I kept getting different information from the people at HRSA and they didn't seem to have it together. Plus, my school didn't put my name on that one form they were responsible for! I couldn't believe it (partly, it's HRSA's fault; shouldn't they have a place for the student's name on the form after all?)! So that form didn't make it until the following Tuesday. I was told I'd be disqualified by one person at HRSA and another told me there was no way that was true!

Looking out for that snail mail....good luck all!

Yeah, basically you will lose any potiential for reinbursement if you have already paid for tuition in full. I put mine on a payment plan (spread over 3 months), in order to have the government pay for it all if I happend to get the scholarship. You might beable to convince your school to refund your loan money, and then have them bill the government for all applicable bills.

Although you might not get your actual tuition paid, the recipient's of the scholarship will still receive the monthly stipend and the also, I believe the "other reasonable costs" monies.Either way, if you KNOW you can give 2 years for every year of tuition paid for, even if this semester it is only the monthly stipend and ORC it still is a scholarship worth applying for. I would just hate for some people to receive it over others and then they back out of their service obligation.:nono:

On another note----the announcements do start coming this week and they will continue on into early October....so if you do not hear this week, do not assume you are not getting it.

What is the ORC scholarship?

Sorry---ORC stands for "other reasonable costs"...I meant that even if they do not pay your tuition this semester if you receive the scholarship, they will still give you the stipend amount and I believe the other reasonable costs amount which from what I understand is a once a year lump sum to pay for books, uniforms etc
