2019-2020 HRSA Nursing Corps Scholarship

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Has anyone heard anything yet? My status is still “under review”

I’m still under review but some have gotten emails about being a finalist

I see that now. Congrats to all finalists and prayers for the rest of us ??

I agree ☝️ let’s keep positive vibes for those of us who are still “under review”. It sounds like everyone that got accepted were BSN level. Is that correct y’all?

That's what I'm wondering as well.

What is the difference in the two scholarships? Asking because I don’t know. I would take the offer you have now and not chance it.

Hi! The main 2 differences is that 1. for the NHSC scholarship, only the stipend is taxed whereas for then Nurse Corps scholarship, everything is taxed which may require you to take out a little bit of loans anyways to cover the taxed portion and 2. For NHSC, you’re also competing against MD/DOs, DDSs, and PAs in addition to nursing professionals. I would prefer the NHSC just because of reason #1. I spoke to an NHSC scholar who’s an NP student now who was in my same predicament and she said that she waited as long as she could to confirm with Nurse Corps and she ended up hearing back from NHSC the day before the Nurse Corps deadline! So just in case, I think I might wait til Aug 2 to accept the Nurse Corps scholarship.

My question for all those who already accepted the scholarship is: is the paperwork for accepting the scholarship do-able in one day? Is it a hefty load of forms? I already contacted my school official and she said she can turn the enrollment verification form around in 5 mins so that should be fine. Let me know what you guys think about the rest of the workload please, thank you!!

I got the finalist email and I’m gonna be an MSN student for the FNP specialty in an accelerated program (I’m not an RN right now).

I took my paperwork to the school the same day and it took me about 20 min to have them fill it our stamp it and I was on my way. But my school didn't put my correct dates on there so I had to call to put in a ticket to correct it. Still waiting.

@prenursing23456 it is literally just the verification form, standard w-4 for taxes, and the e-sign. Takes a couple minutes once you have the form from the school and have scanned your 2-4 in.

I really hope the finalist email means we will get the scholarship. I just sent in my acceptance and e-signed this morning. This will really change my life so fingers crossed! I hope we hear sooner than later. I am in a direct entry MSN-FNP program.

@eburch2, hey. I just got off the phone with HRSA Nurse Corps' help line. I actually called them yesterday to ask the same question. After reading that quite a lot of people received finalist emails (and even got a countersign?) without actually getting any funding in the end, I called them today. Here's what I was told...

1) First rep (yesterday): "Once you're a finalist, you basically got it, barring any fraud or mismatch in the data you've provided."

Me: *Checks online forums b/c rep's claim sounds dubious.

2) Second rep (today): "It doesn't guarantee anything."
Me: "So, could you give me a ballpark of how many people received finalist emails?"

Second rep: "No."

Me: "So does being a finalist even mean anything?"

Second rep: "It means that you're being especially considered."

Me: "What does that mean? Will they be using alternative metrics aside from our initial submission?"

Second rep: "We don't have that kind of information here at the desk. If this makes you feel better, (a) we're not allowed to provide you with personal accounts first of all and (b) I would basically assume you haven't won (more or less her own words)."

Me: ??

Edited. nonsense grammar

Oh wow. Sounds like you can't be sure until you get counter signed and a full on participant login. They don't want hopes getting up at all. How frustrating. The folks last year went through it man. I hope they don't have glitches this year.

Has anyone had their credit checked? I am a finalist but have yet to receive a credit check.
