2019-2020 HRSA Nursing Corps Scholarship

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Good for you that you've been able to pay out of pocket. That's not easy to do while in nursing school so congrats to that.

What about taking out a loan? Then you can graduate as you had planned, may end up being cheaper in the end as you can start making more money sooner. Just a thought, I don't know your personal situation though. Of course it is not ideal, but fortunately it'll only be $15k instead of over $150k like many of us.

^^^ Just realized that this probably came off as insincere since it's in writing. I meant it to be helpful!

Thanks on the congrats for having been able to pay this far. Like I said I haven’t been able to afford that. I’m doing what I have to do which means being behind on other things. I’m unable to get a loan at this time. Trust me I’m in the same school debt as you almost. Which is why I need the scholarship.

If anyone knows the answer to my original question please let me know. Thank you

It’s not a problem lol. I didn’t necessarily take it that way. I’m in the same boat as everyone. I’m tapped out and I have this semester plus the next so it’ll be probably 25k lol. I’ll probably graduate in 2 more years ?

Haha phew. So to my knowledge, you must be enrolled to receive it or if it’s your first year admitted with intention to enroll and start classes before Sept 30th. And I think you need to have at least a year left (2 semesters or something like that), but I’m not positive on this part.

Thanks a bunch! I’ll keep a set of fingers crossed lol

This might go without saying, but I really hope anyone who hears if they got the scholarship posts about it here. Please brag!

Hey guys!!

This is my second time applying for this scholarship and if I don’t get it I really don’t know how I will pay for school. Is there anyway anyone can confirm that you have to have at least a year left to be eligible for it? I am going into my last semester and will graduate in December if I can come up with the funds. I’ve struggled working and taking out a personal loan to pay my private school tuition and I honestly have hit a road block. If this falls through I don’t know what else to do.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat hoping we make it

Just got note that I’m a finalist everyone. Good luck!

Oh wow! Congrats! Did you apply for the NHSC or the Nurse Corps scholarship? Did they email you? Did they check your credit? We are so curious!!

1. Nurse Corps (did not apply for NHSC)

2. Emailed me first thing this morning (0800 PST).

3. No credits check to my knowledge thus far.

And ty! I know it doesn’t mean anything at this point so I’m going to be humble and keep my head down... The “hope for the best, expect the worst” bit.
