2019-2020 HRSA Nursing Corps Scholarship

Updated:   Published

I can't seem to find a thread on the latest round of Nurse Corps Applications, So I'll start. My initial point is more of me venting, but guess I'll ask - Should I even continue with my application? The new cycle and FAFSA wants us to use 2017 tax info, but in 2017, I was preparing for school and was employed full-time. Now that I'm collecting pennies and in dire need of assistance, it looks like my EFC is almost 8000. I can rarely work in reality. I'm really disheartened and confused as to why the FAFSA is set up like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Way to go jleegato! Going off of dates previously posted from past years, if you're a first round finalist, the rest of the finalists would be notified in the next week or so.

I still have my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath. I received it in 2013-2014 when getting my RN and it worked out well for me. Now i'm heading towards MSN, which is not a priority from what I gather.

1. Nurse Corps (did not apply for NHSC)

2. Emailed me first thing this morning (0800 PST).

3. No credits check to my knowledge thus far.

So awesome! Do you mind me asking what your stats were? EFC? GPA? Experience?

@offmylawn would you be able to speak a bit about your previous experience with the award? I received a finalist notification this morning and I’m paralyzed by the thought of not finding a qualifying job.

Hi! I have also received a finalist notification. Very excite! However I still have to read all the fine print of acceptance because, once again, unless I am notified by August 26th Of a final decision (the 26th is the last day I’m able to withdraw from classes with 100% refund) I will have to rescind my acceptance.

if anyone has any tips or experience with this, please please share!

If I find anything interesting in the fine print and rules, I’ll post it here! Good luck to all!

FYI, here are my stats:

EFC: 0

GPA: 3.8

Oh boy, I could write a novel probably. I'll attempt to summarize. I was prepared to move for a qualifying job, but luckily I found a good one at a hospital in my city. It was not a Tier 1 facility, but they approved it after I had proven I had applied at all Tier 1 facilities in my area. I completed my two years of service at the same hospital and was able to transfer jobs in that hospital during that time.

It was a major headache and super confusing, but it was worth it in my view. I'm willing to subject myself to it again, after all.

@offmylawn Haha thanks for sharing! So in your experience HRSA was willing to work with you to get placement? How many Tier 1 facilities were in your area?

Thanks again for your insight ?

@ColleenVZ don’t rescind your offer!! I’m sure that if you got in touch with financial aid at your university they could work something out with you. They’re there to help - don’t think of them as the enemy! It would be a shame to put your nursing career on hold for that reason.

Congratulations to all who has gotten a finalist email!! Very excited for you all. What’s your disciple? Associates BSN,MSN?? Credit checks??

Yes, they technically did work with me but not without struggle. There were 4 Tier 1 facilities in my area at the time. And you are welcome!

Congrats! I wish you the best!

I'm a finalist. THANK YOU GOD. I just submitted all my paperwork. I hope I get it. EFC 3800, BSN program, GPA 3.75

Congrats everyone

Has everyone that received finalist notification in a BSN program? Do you know if they take BSN over ASN?
