HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

Published

Hello everyone, This is my second time applying for this scholarship and hope to get it this time around. I got accepted into Pace nursing program fall of last year but because of lack of funds I had to postpone it for this fall. My overall GPA Is 3.4 and I have EFC of 0. I submitted my application today and now the waiting game begins:nailbiting:. Wish everyone good luck!!!!

Does anyone know, if they ever award you the scholarship if your EFC is at/beyond 5500?

i have a higher efc now, because i just got married, but there is no way we can afford tuition none the less :x

im getting worried lol

I'm in a similar situation, minus the marriage part...I've been desperately trying to find out if there's a way to amend our SAR & EFC based on special circumstances (i.e. my income for 2014 is less than half of my income for 2013). I wish there was a way to do the FAFSA that takes our current financial situation into consideration, rather than only using the prior year's tax return.

Does anyone have any recommendations, or am I just out of luck and doomed?! Thanks!

I just want to say that although this thread does not really help me know if I got a scholarship - I am so glad to see the excitement of those people who have gotten one, along with a sigh of relief that the waiting and wondering is over!! I wish they would just tell me if I did not get one. I got accepted to 2 programs, the expensive one is the one attached to my Nurse Corps application and the one I want to go to. The other one is starting to ask me to get books and scrubs and I have to wait until August 31. I feel like I am cheating on both of them :) Anyway congrats to all successful applicants and hang in there to everyone else.

Congrats to everyone who has heard back and good luck to those of us who have not heard anything yet. Has anyone in PA heard anything? Also is there anyone who did not get a credit check that has received the scholarship?

Someone reported getting it without the credit check. I think the person was from MD. Now I feel like a credit check doesn't mean anything, ugh because mine was checked on July 30th and still haven't heard anything yet...crossing fingers for all of us still waiting!!!

I don't how someone can get it without first checking to make sure they haven't defaulted on a federal debt. I also know a few people last year that are from Md who didn't get their credit checked and didn't receive the award. And the few that did get their credit checked actually were recipients of the scholarship. Don't get discouraged I'm in Md too and I guess they aren't doing it in any specific order.

I had originally understood that only the stipend portion of the award was taxable, but now from what I'm reading it sounds as if the tuition and funds for books, etc., is also taxable? That seems unusual compared to other health profession scholarships with a service requirement.

The only way I see getting around this is to bank 1 or 2 stipend checks into a savings account to use to pay incomes taxes. That's a lot of money to have to come up with by April 15!

Does anyone have that link to the site where you can check to see if your application is still under review or not?
