12 hr shift makeup routine

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Looking for makeup routine recommendations... I have very oily skin and an uneven skin tone with redness. My everyday makeup routine just does not cut it for me while I'm at work. Less than halfway through my shift I'm oily and red and look way more run down and exhausted than I actually feel which really doesn't help when it's 3am and all you can think about is sleeping. Tips? Brands you'd suggest?

Also, going "all natural" is not an option

Thanks!!!

I use MAC prolongwear foundation or colorstay. They last and dont come off if you blot.

No makeup, for the most part. I wear scrubs, yet I manage not to look like one, nynursey. ;)

No makeup here. I'm way too cheap and my mornings are busy enough without another step added. I feel that if my scrubs are clean, my hair is washed, and I am upright - it's a start. I am always impressed how some look amazing makeup wise from start to finish. I think there was a ton of great advice offered.

If you're blessed to not need it, then you're my hero! I couldn't ever get up and head in without makeup on unless I wanted some serious side-eyes and to scare the living daylights out of my patients. [emoji12]

I hope that my comment was taken as comically as I intended it. I didn't mean to imply that nurses need to wear makeup or style their hair daily to look less like a "scrub." If you're lucky enough to wake up and look just fine without those things, then I envy you!

Before I realized that chemical SPFs do not agree with my skin, MAC Pro Longwear was my holy grail. I wear Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + now and it definitely holds up on long days!

I ain't mad atcha.

I could deal with some make up I'm sure. I just never wore that much.

You are probably prettier than some others. You think Halle Berry needs as much work in the morning to look passable ? :p Some of us look like will ferrell if we don't do SOMETHING.

Hahahhahahahaaaa!

I look like my avatar.

If I wear those huge glasses all I need is some lip gloss, see?

I think I fit that ferrell description :) yet I don't care most days. I'm not looking for a hot date, and like many others, even if I tried, I'd look like a hot mess by the end of my day anyway.

I had the same problem...until I bought Kat von d foundation. I now use smash box primer also with urban decay setting spray. This makeup is so good I coded someone and it didn't smudge.

I will say this, lately I've been working so much I've just went all natural. I have preferred sleep time over making time for makeup application. It gave my skin a well-deserved break. But people ask if I am sick or feeling okay when I don't have makeup on! I guess I look pale and my dark circles are showing...😂

Any brand will not withstand 12 hours. Take 5 minutes, wash your face, and reapply basic foundation.

Also works for foot pain. Change your socks and shoes and rub in foot pain relieving cream.

I must respectfully disagree. The Estee Lauder Double wear and Lancome Teint Idole take a thorough cleansing to get off AFTER a 12 hour shift. I have heard of similar results with MAC prolongwear (sp?). Of course if your skin is super oily that will affect wear.
