12 hr shift makeup routine

Looking for makeup routine recommendations... I have very oily skin and an uneven skin tone with redness. My everyday makeup routine just does not cut it for me while I'm at work. Less than halfway through my shift I'm oily and red and look way more run down and exhausted than I actually feel which really doesn't help when it's 3am and all you can think about is sleeping. Tips? Brands you'd suggest?

Also, going "all natural" is not an option

Thanks!!!

I love Revlon Colorstay more than anything else (in any price range) that I have ever tried. It feels light and flexible, but gives good coverage even though I just use a touch of it. I have dry to normal skin, but they do have an oily skin formula.

I have oily skin as well. I use Smashbox Foundation Primer in Light, Stila Stay All Day Foundation, LORAC POREfection Baked Powder, and then finish off with Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I still have to blot at least once during a shift, but it's the best combination of products that have worked for me so far.

One trick I've learned is to actually use less powder, not more. I used to cake on powder intuitively thinking it would keep my face less oily longer, but the opposite is true. Now I only use a light dusting of powder to set my makeup and it has kept my skin less oily longer.

I had the same problem until I got older and my skin dried our more ...

Some years ago I went to Sephora and tried different foundations - I bought one primer. Also, I got a foundation that I liked from clinique and over that some powder.

Because I am prone to redness I got a cream for red skin from clinique which worked well for me for years.

Now that I am older and my skin has changed due to hormonal changes I still use primer at times, I use foundation from Lancome , I use eye shadow primer. I like Revlon's 16 h lipstick because it lasts literally the whole day but it dries out lips. I use MAC products as well and like their eye shadows.

If you have the money and time I would suggest going to a place like Sephora and look at the different primers, they have a sample section close to the register where they often have sample sizes. I know other people who use the spray to set make up but I never used it.

I finally found products that work well for me. I went to Ulta & explained my skin condition & what I needed. They introduced me to IT cosmetics. IT has a cream called Bye Bye Redness that works wonders to cover my rosacea. I use their foundation & then the bronzer. The salesperson told me never to use pink or even peachy hues for blush because those will defeat the purpose of the Bye Bye Redness. These products are a bit pricey but to me they're well worth the cost. I get through my entire shift without the oiliness coming through & the makeup lasts well.

I have no suggestions as far as eye makeup or lipstick because I don't use those.

I doubt any realistic looking makeup is not going to last 12 hrs. A mid-day touch up with some MAC Blot powder, some lipbalm and some fresh lipstick goes a long way to keeping the makeup going.

I wonder if the flight attendants have long wearing makeup secrets? I have flown Virgin Atlantic a few times, and the red lipstick looks as good at the end of the long trans-atlantic flight as it did at the start.

Airline employees always look so perfect!!!

I def recommend Urban Decay setting spray or NYX setting spray on top of whatever makeup you wear. The both work wonders in making makeup last!

Apply makeup before you leave for work.

Wash it off after you start.

Reapply it right before your shift ends.

The outside world doesn't see you without the makeup, leaving your co-workers the only ones who know what you look like without makeup!

I like Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield. It's got a SPF 30 too. Does a good job of keeping me oil-free looking for 10+ hours.

You could also keep powder papers handy in your locker. I used to use them all the time. I know the Body Shop sells them.

I'd think a good clay mask like Origins Clear Improvement would be perfect once weekly for you too to help with breakouts and absorbs oils...

I figure it's work, not a beauty contest. I make sure I comb my hair, brush my teeth and my nails are clean. Nothing wrong with going natural

Make Up Forever Primer

your choice of foundation and powder

NYX setting spray (this stuff works better than urban decays spray for my skin)

Hope that helps, I also blot halfway through my shift. Oily skin is so much work.
