I like many of the Irish names that have become more popular over the past decade... in particular, I like Declan and Ian for boys and Finnoula and Fiona for girls. My son's best friend was born in Ireland, and his name is Oisin (pronounced Aw-SHEEN). When my son first mentioned him after meeting him at school many years ago, I assumed he was Middle Eastern. When I first spoke to his Mom on the phone, it was obvious she was Irish (her accent and her name being Sinead, lol). Dh's last name is strongly Germanic, though, and doesn't sound ''right'' with the Irish names I liked, so we didn't give our son one of those names. I saw the name Aisling in a Maeve Binchy book once, and really like that as well. Apparently, it is pronounced ''Ash-LEEN''.
