It's not even the end of October and I am freezing walking out in the cold from the parking lot to the hospital. We have a shuttle bus but it takes 30 minutes between each pick up because the bus goes to a few lots. How do you all do it?
Mock turtleneck and a scrub coat at work.....usually freeze my cahooties off from the waist down while trotting into work from the car......and tonight I ended up removing that turtleneck cause it was roastifying in the ICU tonight for a change.........damned if I do and damned if I don't.........lol lol lol lol
I always wear 1-2 t-shirts and shorts beneath my scrubs. Here in south Texas, cold weather outside is not the problem. It's the blasted AC on the inside. It's probably 50-55 F in my ER. Yes, I know the staff is moving around with dizzying speed but this is ridiculous. Needless to say, the patients, who are not moving at all, are distinctly uncomfortable. Let me palpate your abdomen with my ice cold fingers....
I hate being cold, but I hate being hot at work more, so I can't recommend wearing long underwear while on the job. I'd be in a pool of sweat 5 minutes into my shift. I bought myself a long, down coat from almost 10 years ago because I'd freeze to death while scraping ice off my car windows at 11:30 p.m. I got it from Eddie Bauer and so I went to their site to see if they still have anything comparable, and they do. It's expensive, but will last you for many years and keep you toasty-warm in wind and cold. My coat is a bright blue and it looks like I'm wearing a sleeping bag. Co-workers have laughed at me when they see me coming, but I'm warm and they're NOT!
Click here to see a similar coat to the one I have:

I've known nurses who would wear sweatshirts over their scrubtops...I would wear either a long-sleeved T-shirt or a turtleneck under my scrubtop on the unit and a jacket, gloves, hat, etc. outdoors. Once inside the hospital, removal of all outerwear begins!
I hear that hunters wear pantyhose under their camoflage pants. Perhaps this would work for you under your scrubs? Or maybe a pair of tights?

Cold in my scrubs????Hasn't happened yet. Last week it was 38 degrees in the morning when I left for clinical. Add the hot flash I was having to that and it felt like at least 80 degrees. Heck, I didn't even bring a jacket with me. I guess that one good thing about aging gracefully....lol:rolleyes:
