How do you relax after a shift?

Published

I've developed a glass of wine ritual. If I don't have to go back the next day I take the time to make a hot bubble bath and light candles and incense.

A glass of Moscato relaxes me and makes me nice and sleepy. 😴

Can you manage with a glass of wine on the night before you work? Or do you stay totally dry until you know you'll be off?

I come home with music playing during my commute, get something light but high protein to eat, then lay down and turn netflix on. I am usually asleep before whatever I am watching is over. But i work night shift so i always come straight home and go to bed shortly after. I do take Benadryl or melatonin some mornings to help facilitate the drifting off to sleep if i am especially wired.

I'd just like to say I LOVE Moscato! My fave is Umberto Fiore Moscato D'Asti!

I don't drink all that often tho, especially not right when I get home since I have kids who are expecting supper and homework help. I don't get to relax until after supper is done, then it's a cherry coke or my favorite ice cream and my kindle or DVR'd shows.

YES Moscato! I am gonna have to try that one out. Chocolate covered strawberries and moscato sounds great right. I'm currently getting a pedicure as I type this. Be jealous y'all! This male nurse has pretty feet!

A glass of wine. Or three.

Not a moscato fan. It has to be very dry. Chardonnay is my white of choice.

I don't drink at all....haven't had ETOH since prior to June 2008. I relax and unwind after my 12 hour nightshift by going for a 4-5 mile run at 6:30am before getting ready for bed. Helps me clear my head and sleep like the dead :-)

Also, a little melatonin always helps facilitate great sleep.

I finish my work haul tomorrow. Pop the bottles!

As soon as I leave work I call my husband and tell him about my day. As soon as I get home, that's it. I don't talk about work. I leave all that stuff outside my home. Usually I surf the web a bit before going to bed.

When we lose one of our kids though usually the only thing that works is a day full of being a couch potatoe, watching musicals and tear worthy shows. A couple of good cries and ice cream does the spirit wonders.

I run before work. That helps me maintain sanity through my shift. A little vino in the evening is nice, though! I hope to get a hot tub soon (I'm enjoying the one at my mom's while I'm staying with her).

I'm a night shifter with a half hour commute. I listen to an audiobook on the drive home, get home, change into pajamas, take my vitamins/meds with a snack and go to bed. No alcohol on the day of work. Too paranoid.

Moscato is waaay too sweet. I've been on a Sauv Blanc kick lately. I also like Proseco and Pinot Grigio.

Red: Montepulciano d'abruzzo or drier- not a sweet wine fan.

Oh yes. I drink. I'll have a glass or 2 if I have during my work week, and I will generally drink more if I'm off.

When I ran more I drank less. Gotta get back in to that- better for my body and soul. And YES on the melatonin, I swear by it.

A glass of chardonnay or cabernet sauvignon is the only thing I have to look forward to around 5 pm. I have a glass every night and maybe a few more if I'm not working the next day. It doesn't negatively effect me. I even get up and run at 4:30 the next morning. It's the running joke on our unit that my husband hands me my glass as I walk in the door.

I have 1-2 glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon after I put on my PJs. It is hard to get up for work the next day, but that seems to be the case whether I have a glass or not!
