How to pass the NCLEX-PN in 2019?

Published

I’ve taken this test 10 times over a three year period and can’t pass. I just got my report and from the 8 sections: Coordinated Care, Safety and Infection Control etc.; I got “above the passing standard” on one of the sections, “near the passing standard” on four of the sections and “below the passing standard” on three of the sections. My question is do I need to be “above the passing standard” on all the sections or most of them? When you pass, does it even display the results like this? I’ve been using UWorld and on my last attempt at the NCLEX I’ve been taking notes based on the rationales instead of doing an endless sea of questions like from in my previous attempts. Also, I’ve been in school knocking out some general education courses for the RN program these past 3 years while trying to take the NCLEX. I think it’s part of the reason on why I can’t pass but it’s summer now and I’m free and I still failed when I took the test last week. I want to do this because I know I can get a job when I’m done. I’m a Medical Assistant making $20/hr and I’m not even certified. I plan to transfer from the floors of the hospital to the clinic division of the hospital so at least I have some good things lined up for me. Any advice would really help because I’m really depressed about all this.

You have to pass in all categories. I would suggest just doing questions and reading rationale, even if answered right. This will help you get keywords to the question in aiding picking right answer. If there is an area your are struggling with then study up on that subject

So when you got your test results, all the sections were above the passing standard?

When you pass you just get told you passed

When you pass the NCLEX you do not get a report sheet like the one you mentioned.

In order to pass you need to be above passing in all categories.

Per your post, you only were above passing in 1 out of 8 sections, the remaining sections are the areas you should focus on, both content and questions.

How do these results compare to your previous 9 attempts? Have you improved on any areas? For example you stated that three areas were below passing... are these the same areas that you have been below before?

In my previous attempts, I do remember getting “above the passing standard” in a few more sections but I don’t remember which sections exactly.

Hi. So sorry to hear you haven’t been able to pass the exam. I graduated nursing school 3 yrs ago & just took my exam last week. I lost my mom & went through a difficult breakup in the 3yrs since I graduated. Went thru a lot of personal turmoil but God. I prayed & asked him to help me get motivated bc I lacked that too, considering how much time had passed since I graduated back, in 2016. I always remember one of my Professors say; if you don’t use it you lose it. Boy, was that ever the truth! I forgot so so much! My confidence was at zero but, The Lord heard my prayer as he always has. I asked him for guidance & I did my research- purchased The Hurst review bc I needed a major refresher on content. I also had access to the Nclex PN Mastery app which helped a great deal as well. There’s this registered nurse on YouTube called Sarah RN. She puts up these short, easy, concise & to the point videos & free quizzes which were a blessing too. Lots of easy to memorize mnemonics which helped me. I studied hardcore for a month & a half. (I failed med surg II in nursing school) and I passed in 85 questions. I know it was The Lord’s Favor 1st and foremost but also the willingness to want it- which I desperately needed. Didnt have it prior. I answered I can’t tell you how many questions each day. I found that I over studied bc when I sat down for that exam, it was easier than I thought it would be. I was not an A student just so you know. Don’t give up! Try talking to God sweetheart. He’s real & prayer does work. If I could do it, you can too. Ask for his help & he’ll give you the help you need if Nursing is where he indeed wants you. I know you must feel discouraged. Things will get better. It doesn’t rain forever. Chin up☺️

Update: I just passed my exam on my 11th try! I got the good pop-up and everything! I ended up with the maximum amount of questions: 205. Many people would tell you to quit after 4 attempts but what I did differently on my last attempt was that I wrote out rationales from Uworld as well as stuff I wasn’t sure about. Also, I looked up stuff I didn’t understand and wrote it out. I took it twice this summer and I think I failed the first attempt of this summer because I was stuck on the writing process and I couldn’t put in enough time to study. I feel that even though I studied 85% of what was on Uworld, I feel like that most of the questions I was going off my own judgement from the top off of my head. Also, I’d like to add that I used the PVT trick in the past and it has taken my money.

I used the PVT trick with the right information several times and it refused to take it. Wow, I just can’t believe I passed after 11 attempts.

Thanks everyone for your comments and support!
