This is very interesting. they(whoever they are) have said that the average age for nursing students is in the 30's.

I amcurious to see how true this is.

I am going to go to nursing school either this year or next.

I will be either 36 or 37 upon entrance. How about eveyone else?

I will be 25 when I graduate with my RN I feel like I have been trying to get here for so long. I started school when I was 19 it is taking too long but when you have to support yourself through school it takes longer.

at my school Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, the ages range from 21-44, with most being in the early, early twenties

How many years of service (full time) will a new grad be able / willing to contribute?

The ages of the students in my school range from early 20s to 50s. Most of the younger students say they will work for a few years full time, have a family, may work part time when the kids are young, and may return to work full time when the kids are grown. The oldest students say they have 10+ years to contribute. The middle range (students with young kids at home): if they can find a job less exhausting, they will retire early.

I am 21 right now and when I graduate with my BSN in May 2003 I plan on working about 3 years full-time and then work on Master's degree. I am a single mom to a 3 year old little girl and I don't know when I will find a guy and get married but once I do get married and have been married for at least 2 years then I will have a 2nd child and will work part-time for a few years once the other child or children depending on how many more I have I will go back to work full-time but I want my Master's degree before I have a second child. I plan on having a second child at 30 and plan on having my Master's degree at the age of 28 or 29.

I am 35 and I will be starting a bridge MSN program in August. I already have a BS and MS in exercise physiology but want to do more hence the nursing degree.

Hi Everyone!

I'll be almost 28 when I start the ADN program this fall. After high school I went to college for about a year and a half, unmotivated and my mind in other places than in the books. I just didnt know what I wanted to do career wise so I decided to put school aside and get a job. After working for several years and realizing sitting behind a desk was not for me, I went back to school! I decided to enter the nursing program for many reasons. One big reason was because of the positive expierence I had with the RN's who took care of my ailing/dying grandmother. Yes there are angels among us!

Keep Well everyone

I made the decision to return to school in January this year, and just turned 46 last month. I'm taking my pre-req's now and hope to apply to the ADN-RN program in December. If all goes according to plan, God willing, I'll be graduating in 2004, the same year my youngest child will graduate high school! Nursing is what I've always wanted to do, especially the patient care, (I, too, have been pushing papers for "corporate America" for the last 28 years!) but its taken me this long to work up the nerve to finally pursue my dream. I think the events of 9/11 really helped me make up my mind, and stop making excuses, to get back to school and become a nurse. Good luck to all of you, and never be afraid to follow your dreams!

Susan
