Not the OP, but I have a few questions:
What was a typical week like when you started clinicals, schedule wise? Is it like having a full time job?
How did you study?
How did it compare to what you expected - difficulty wise?
What sorts of things did you do during clinicals?
Did you get to pick your clinical site?
What was the last semester like? Did you get to choose a specialty to focus on?
TIA :)
I wasn't a fan of nursing school. I felt like most of the instructors were self-righteous bullies. I kept my head low and worked hard to get it over with as soon as I could.
I often consider getting my masters in nursing education, just to try and change the culture of nursing school. The 'eating of the young' begins there. JMHO
I know at my nursing school, the students who stood up for themselves and other students generally didn't last the semester in which they spoke out. Sad, but true. In nursing school, if you get on the bad side of a professor, you were 'weeded' out quickly. This may not be the case everywhere (and I'm sure it's not a lot of places).. but I've spoken to many nurses who had similar experiences at their respective schools.

Clinical was 1-2 days per week either 6 to 12 hours each day. Last semester was like being a part time nurse.
How did you study?
I don't recommend reading everything. I never did and was an A/B student. You have to learn the material you need to know to be a nurse and how to answer NCLEX style questions.
How did it compare to what you expected - difficulty wise?
It was easier than I expected. However for many it was more difficult than expected. A third of the class failed. So, you have to learn to study the right way.
What sorts of things did you do during clinicals?
You learn fundamentals, skills, and do CNA work.
Did you get to pick your clinical site?
No, but in my last semester because I maintained good grades I was able to pick my preceptorship site.
What was the last semester like? Did you get to choose a specialty to focus on? Not really, although I did chose to work in IMCU. They won't let you focus on peds or L&D. It has to be a broader focus. Last semester at my school was like going to school and working part time as a nurse.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer - I really appreciate it!
I'm sorry, as a result of nursing school I can only answer questions in an NCLEX format. Would you mind offering me four choices that either all seem right or all seem wrong?
Nursing School is different for everyone. How was nursing school for you, choose the most correct answer:
A) it was a living nightmare that I haven't yet go out of now that I am a staff nurse
B) Sunshine and Daisies. I now fart unicorns and rainbows.
C)Nursing school was just a means to the end, so that I can become an NP (or CRNA, CNM, etc) with the minimal amount of floor nursing experience
D) I am still trying to figure out exactly how nursing school was. And do you happen to know what my name is? I can't seem to remember it, with all this knowledge stuffed in my head.
E) All above are correct
F) All but B are correct.
There you go Dogen, there is your NCLEX style question!
