How was Nurses Week celebrated at your Facility

Nurses General Nursing

I know these are difficult financial times. To acknowledge Nurses Week at our facility, someone taped a sheet of paper outside a door leading to our unit that said "HAPPY NURSES WEEK".

That was all. Not that we needed to have a luxurious luncheon or flowers or candy. This was a computer generated sheet with the words. I guess at least it wasn't handwritten in magic marker and the words were spelled correctly.:loveya:

Our facility did nothing except put up a "Happy Nurses Week!" sign but our doctors and vendors (Vitas) gave us a free breakfast, a lunch and a dinner during the week. Also, for Christmas last year the facility gave us $10 grocery store gift cards. Our HR rep was embarrassed when she handed them out!:imbar

BTW, the owners of my LTC facility all drive $300,000 cars. I guess $10 was all they had left to spend on us!:barf01:

As a new nurse, when Nurse's Week got no mention at work, I thought our hospital just didn't recognize it.

Instead, it seems that Nurses Week (or day, whatever) was replaced by "Hospital Day", and our facility hired in Der Weinerschnitzel hot dog trucks and ice cream vendors to cater in lunch and dinner (which I stupidly ate, and felt sick the rest of my shift). They also gave us pretty nice backpacks with our hospital's name on it, a Sees Candy lollipop, and a little plastic stop-watch on a string. All employees benefitted, not just the nurses.

I wouldn't have purchased ANY of what they gave us, but I thought it was a nice gesture.

I guess no one is ever happy with what they receive...especially nurses that really are the core of patient care. We deserve so much, ask for so little and in return...get sooo little. Got an ice cream bar, beach chair, lunch box, and a tea service ( if you had time to leave the floor and enjoy it). Of course I ate the ice cream bar...the rest - donating to charity...one write off for next year.

I work at a home health company and we had a nice breakfast. We also go a back with a mug in it, it guess it the thought that counts!!

We aren't getting anything. There is no celebration for night staff at all.

HA! I thought my floor was the only ones to forget that there is a night shift. We did get to clean up some pizza boxes that were left behind with crusts, though!

As for nurses week. We were given a first aid kit. In previous years we've been given scrub jackets or tops with our logo, lunches, yada, yada, yada. None of that this year. In fact my head nurse said she pretty much forgot it was nurses week with the lack of fanfare. She did go out and get us all a little gift from bath and body works with some homemade chocolate. :yeah:

I got a packet of flower seeds from Walmart with the $1 price stamped on it. Stapled to the packet was a note that said "Thank you for helping us sow the seeds of our success".

They can kiss my big fat ass.

I was shocked that they didn't put in the happy nurses week banner.

they had banner up to celebrate some other month thing-hearing or somehting like that.

they gave us a book on nursing theory and sent the lady in that wrote it to talk to us.

I wonder how much it cost to have her come in for 1/2 hr talk?

I'm going to be ****** off if next week they put up banner celebrating someone else's week.

We got the cheap plastic water bottles made in China. Last year it was a nice canvas bag, but the gift was downgraded supposedly due to all the losses the hospital has taken in the bad economy.

Nothing from our managers -- just the usual nasty grams about paperwork, additional requirements, etc.

Oh, but there WAS a very stealth breakfast held at 8 a.m. in the PHYSICIANS conference center! Had to laugh at that one. I bet the doctors sure enjoyed it. . . :icon_roll. We found out about it at 11 a.m. just as our stomachs started to growl.
