Is Dakins still used?
I've used it once in 3 years on a med/surg floor. We all scratched our heads and tried to figure out where to get it from, LOL

I am an American.
I like the idea of putting that in writing...and calling the Attorney General's office, and the labor department, and the local news and.....LOL!

I am an American.
You know, if you were in his country I could understand this, however, he is here! This really just rubbed me the wrong way. 1. That he's arrogant enough to want this followed and 2. Your NM didn't tell him to go pound salt. He should just thank his lucky stars that he doesn't work at my hospital because I'm pretty sure my NM would have made him cry. I would suggest that if he says anything again, to remind him that if he did his job right you wouldn't have to make suggestions or look at him ever again

Relocating to Cleveland from Columbus...Advice?
Little Italy is very nice and lots of fun, not to mention Coventry. I would't suggest staying anywhere too close to the hospital. There is also Lakewood which would be about a 15 minute drive or Ohio City or Tremont as well. Very nice, older, hipper neighborhoods. Good luck, I hope you like wearing white :)

How was Nurses Week celebrated at your Facility
HA! I thought my floor was the only ones to forget that there is a night shift. We did get to clean up some pizza boxes that were left behind with crusts, though! As for nurses week. We were given a first aid kit. In previous years we've been given scrub jackets or tops with our logo, lunches, yada, yada, yada. None of that this year. In fact my head nurse said she pretty much forgot it was nurses week with the lack of fanfare. She did go out and get us all a little gift from bath and body works with some homemade chocolate.

Scared Of Poop!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!
I hate poop as well. I normally put a mask on to make myself feel better. I also like to hide the fact that I'm gagging underneath the mask. The more I "play in poo" the less it effects me. I'd bet you'll be the same way. Oh, and since everyone else is sharing a gross story, I'll add mine. You haven't seen or smelled anything until the renal team makes you straight cath an anuric pt. HOLY COW! Words cannot describe the odor nor the color. I'll take poo all day, anyday!

Which blood pressure reading is correct?
The manual read should be more accurate. When I get my vitals and the bp appears to be off I get a manual and let the doc know what that is. Actually, most docs ask if "off" bp's are manual or machine.

Negative Threads
The other lists you described are hobbies. I would hope there would be no ranting...hobbies are fun. Nursing on the other hand can be hectic and really difficult. Ranting is a way to get things out with people who understand. Besides, this give my husband a break from having to nod his head and give me a consoling look while he tries to figure out what I'm talking about:twocents:
