How was Nurses Week celebrated at your Facility

I know these are difficult financial times. To acknowledge Nurses Week at our facility, someone taped a sheet of paper outside a door leading to our unit that said "HAPPY NURSES WEEK".

That was all. Not that we needed to have a luxurious luncheon or flowers or candy. This was a computer generated sheet with the words. I guess at least it wasn't handwritten in magic marker and the words were spelled correctly.:loveya:

We busted our butts this year to get our 4th consecutive Magnet certification (one of like two hospitals in the country) and we got some cheesy "week" of raffles for crackerjacks, the pleasure of knowing one of the CEO's was tossing a pitch at some random college ball game and a chance to have a picture taken for a Magent poster. (We all actually enjoy, are very active and proud of our Magnet here.)

Whoopee.

What do we want? Pens. Give me two pens and a bumper sticker that said "I am Magnet" and I would have been a heck of a lot happier.

Pfft.

We got a travel coffe mug filled with candy and a pen. It was actually a pretty nice gift. I work in LTC and they're trying to save money everywhere they can, so I wasn't really expecting much of anything.

I would have totally loved that.

Of course that NOTHING ( i just hate these type of celebrations are not from the heart, are fake)... but is OK....I could have a present for them......they could recieve from me the nurse to them, part of my salary, present for Nurses day, to analyze and fix what is not going well in nursing life-work-duties where I work

We got the wonderful opportunity to attend a couple "educational" inservices... gee thanks. I wasn't expecting much but for them to promote that like it's any sort of celebration seemed ridiculous. Ah, well. And the travel mug they gave us last year leaks so I can't even use that. :icon_roll

We dressed up in white, some wore there caps, we even order new caps for the young nurses that never got one. The facility gave up a little bucket with candy and a Happy nurses week sign to hang up. It has been a fun week. We plan to wear our whites, caps and pins until the 12th.

We were (encouraged to) offered the opportunity to donate to the local food bank to demonstrate the hospital's core values and mission! All this also to show our gratitude at being able to serve our community. Excuse me? I do that ever day that I come to work!:o

When was Nurses week again, I think they forgot, LOL!

It seems the hospital are always in dire times when it comes to celebrating "nurses week". If they do not acknowledge it, why even have a NURSES WEEK? It just upsets alot of nurses and makes the facility look cheap and the nurses work unappreciated. I think if I ever go for another job interview, will ask how they celebrate NURSES WEEK, and if they actually do. That will be a reflection on how they value their staff. LOL...

Our facility put up computer generated posters all around the facility, hospices and vendors sent donuts, roses, tote bags and a really nice lunch. Our DON gathered all the charge nurses and and unit managers in and gave us a card and a really nice keepsake box. All in all, pretty good. Happy Nurses Week to everyone.

Who came up with this idea and how could they pitch it with a straight face?
