How much is your pay?

I'm just curious...

Salaries varies from state to state, as well as the years of experience, and the area of specialty, right? How much is your pay per month? :heartbeat :nurse: :heartbeat

I'm a new RN and I make 22.00/hr working in N Dakota but I live in a small town in Minnesota. I could probably make more, but I work in Psych and love :heartbeatmy job and love where I work, so the money isn't relly my priority. Besides, if I make too much it will mean I have to pay more in taxes. Who wants to do that?!!! :no:Oh, and my employer pays my student loan payments while I'm employed with them, so that's worth at least 2.00/hr more and since I don't have to deal with the worry of making that payment every month, I bought a new car. :yeah: I think you have to consider the whole package, but most of all, be happy with your job.:)

You said it-most of all, be happy with your job.

Good for you!

This thread is necessary, and I'm glad it was started. People considering nursing need to know what they might be able to get (or rule out what they'll be able to get).

Specializes in Med/Surg.
I am graduating from an ADN program in May and have accepted a position on a medical floor with a base rate of $20.52/hour. I will be signing up with a new program where I will get a $10 shift differential for agreeing to work 50 out of 52 weekends (I chose Sat, Sun, Mon, but I also had the option of Fri, Sat, Sun). I actually get the differential anytime I work, except inservices. For nights the diff for this program is $14. The regular shift diffs for this hospital are $5 for weekends and $4 for nights. I will most likely end up working 7 days each 2 week pay period, so from what I figure, this will put me over $68k/year. This is in South Carolina.

I am in South Carolina too. I wish my hospital offered this program or any hospital in the area I would have to jump on it. My base rate is 21.50 plus 1.00/hr to charge and 4.00 an hour on weekends. Nights gets 5.00 extra for weekends and I am not sure what our night shift diff actually is. I am going on 2 years experience med/surg.

Ohio , graduated 1980. Work ER, ICU, OHR. Make 37.65 hr, 1.50$ hr xtra preceptor pay, 3.50 $ hr charge pay. 50 CENTS HR if you get ccrn or cen. The average house cost in central Ohio is about 2 K. (4 bed room, 2 bath, new nice area) , Gas is now 3.35 a gallon. I think you have to relate apples to apples, figure in the daily cost of living etc. Although, if the average house cost is 300k for a small old home in CA, and gas is 4 $ gall. , then higher pay doesn't off set the daily living cost.

Specializes in CTICU, Interventional Cardiology, CCU.
$52.50/hr, new grad.

where do u work, I want to work there..52.50/hr..is your hosp. hiring I will relocate  but in all honesty that's what we should be paid, if not more, am I right? :yeah:

I work in California (SF Bay Area) we are a moderately paid union hospital. A friend of mine makes $56 for 12 hour night shift. I work night shift as well, but 8 hours. We don't get weekend differential (I WISH we did, that MAY make it more bearable to be there every other weekend!). On the even more positive side, according to our contract for the first 5 years of employment we get a 10%/year (broken down the 10% is 5% step increase and 5% cost of living) raise!!! After 5 years it is 5%/year for cost of living.

As much as this sounds... I often do NOT feel it is enough for what we go through!!!

Also, I should mention that the median house price in my town (NOT San Fran itself) is 500-650k (for a 50 year old fixer upper)...

PS

We are hiring!

I live in NYC, Tottenville, Staten Island, and work in Newark NJ. I get $33-34/hr. that includes my night shift diff, and I don't get a diff. for weekends and the only holiday pay is if you work the night before the holiday...ex..If you want holiday pay you need to work the night of July 3rd to get the holiday pay for July 4th.....yea...., my thought is OK, If I am working July4th and start my shift at 7pm it's still July 4th untill 12am, so why am I not getting paid to work on the actual holiday? never understood that...Anyway. I work 12 hour night shiftson an interventional cardiac/CCU step down unit in an inner-city hosp that is one of the best cardiac hosp. in the nation, but the only downfall is it is located in Newark,NJ the stolen car cap. of the US and right in the middle of the ghetto..no offense to anyone..I grew up outside south Philly so I was prepared ..anyway, My hosp. is part of the largest health system in the North East 30+ hospitals owned by the system. But my hosp. is non-union, and IT SUX..that is the only way to put it. The flagship hosp. for my healthcare system is a UNION hosp. it is also a beautiful, marble floored, cherry wood lined, 24hr cafeteria with a McDonalds, in a wealthy neighborhood type of hosp. I just completed a 6 week Critical Care class there and I was in awe of the flagship hosp. I walked into my hosp. after being at the flagship hosp. and didn't understand why my hosp. dosen't have the same type of system, technology, or nurses union. We are owned by that hosp. infact the flagship hosp. sends all the major cardiac pt's to us...so give us the same treatment. BUT my hosp. has the reptuation that 1 year experience at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center can put your foot in the door anywhere in the US. My parents who still live in PA told me that some of their clients, who have been MD residents at my hosp., said all I need is 1 year and I am golden. YEA, i am 9 months in only a few more to go till 1 year...but as far as Staten Island( Tottenville) NYC, the avg. home goes for $400-900,000 if not more..and like you said a fixer up-er 50+ years old or even the 1000000 newly built houses that look beautiful(but poor construction) out here that are HUGE but with no land go for even more..so can I work in CA? I would love to!!!!!and I mean that!!!!:yeah:

Morettia2, I don't see ay reason why California would not love to have you! Bear in mind, I am in Northern California (near San Francisco), I have heard Southern Cali wages are not quite so high. Most hospitals here have training programs (regional and local) if you are new to a specialty. I agree with your parents once you get that 1-2 years you have a lot more options. But, we have great hospital systems out here that all hire new grads! Good Luck!

What is your hourly rate?

that pretty decent even before taxes..with one day of OT

new grad evening shift at a Long term medical acute hospital....$28.75 per hour during the week and $30 per hour on weekends. (Boston)

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I'm a new RN, obviously with no experience, I've been working for about 6 weeks my base pay without shift differential is $36.00/hr, which comes out to just under $70,000 a year plus $5500 for weekend/night differential. So a grand total of $75,000/year.

Starting pay at our Ohio, 150 bed hospital is @$19.00 for a new grad up to @$32.00 for a nurse with 20 years of acute nursing experience. There is no difference in specialty areas or for a BSN. There is a 12 % shift differential, 15% differential on weekends and a $1.50/hr. additional for the Charge(head or resource)nurse.
