How much do new BSN nursing grads make?

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hi everyone! I am just wondering how much fresh nursing grads with a BSN degree make. I started a post earlier asking what nursing students make and from the responses it seems like they dont make much at all. Makes me wonder what a nurses salary really is.

I got my nursing license on Tuesday after graduating from an ADN program. I got my first job offer that Thursday at a acute care hospital. It pays $30/hour, which $1000/year education reimbursement. I live in Southeastern Arizona.

From just under $21k to just over $33k, if this recent posting for a hospital position in the Research Triangle area of NC here on AN is to be believed. The low end works out to about $11.75 per hour and the high end to about $18.50. I suspect that this is about par for many parts of the country outside of the larger metro areas - there are many similar postings in the same salary range on AN. This seems like a reasonable, if somewhat low salary for a new RN but this is not a new grad position - note the significant experience required.

Specializes in NICU.

San Diego approximately $35/hr starting, either degree. 2% differential for BSN

The hospital i'm at currently pays ADN's the same as BSN's, at least new grads. I would agree that BSN's fill more managerial positions though. 10% differential for nights.

Wow! I got $17 as a nurse assistant in NJ. I think you should not get less than $30/ hour for a significant time and trouble that you went through in school. It's just my opinion.

Specializes in Medical Oncology, ER.

Im at $63/hour with 10% differential.

Specializes in Education, Administration, Magnet.

For new grads BSN and ADN start the same at my hospital at $25/hr (north Texas)

Way to go nursephillyphil! Where do you work, if you don't mind my asking?

I work at Valley children's hospital in Madera California. New grads start at 27.15, noc differential is 15%. The pay is same for ADN and BSN.

Specializes in ER.

In my area, a new BSN grad makes the same as the ADN grad. No pay benefits or differences. However, hospitals prefer it because they don't have to pay for the BSN education down the line.

Denver: HCA, starting August 2015. $22/hour, plus $4 for nights, $1 for weekends.

Specializes in Medical Oncology, ER.

Northern California, thats the most specific i'll get lol. but in general northern california hospitals pay roughly the same, give or take a few.
