When going on the interview, I specifically told them I didn't want oncology or cardiac. Now look what I'm stuck with. I can't even transfer out until 6 months.
Hmmm, our new graduate nurses $24.25 and then 15% for night shift differential. Where are you working in NJ if I can ask???? Of course, our hospital is going to start upcoming union/nurse contract negotiations soon and we know that we are now behind.
Hi everyone!
1. Lpn currently, soon to be RN (I'm in school right now, and yes it's KILLING me! LOL)
2. 1 1/2 years as charge of a 93 bed LTC facility.... decided I liked to work with a younger population so...
3. the past 2 1/2 years I've been working in a psychiatric hospital on an adolescent unit.
4. $ 17/hour plus full medical and life insurance, IPERS, and all the government discounts etc.
I'm teaching now at a votech in Texas...took quite a pay cut from the hospital but have always wanted to try teaching.
At the hospital as a 25 year nurse, my ending base salary was $24..add a buck for charge and another for certification and shift diffs when appicable....I was around $30/hr on nights with benes.
Now I'm down to $20/hr but I don't have the hospital stress. Ask me in a year if it's worth it or not....I'm still going through some withdrawls...hehe.

NurseBettyBoop,
Noticed you are SE Pa, are you working in Phildelphia? A friend of mine is nursing super at a LTC facfility and she mentioned Phila nurses were doing ok. Some work three twelves and are up around 60K. They are commuting about 1 hr each way but seem to be ok with the drive.
If you are working in the Phila area, how is the hiring for fresh out of school nurses?
Just curious.
