I am curious to see which State pays the most money for an RN in Labor and Delivery. I will graduate in May and I start off at $20.50 in Ohio.
New grads at my hosp here in Fl start at about $19/hr - its 18 plus high change..dont have the exact amount at my fingertips.
I am at $25/hr but shift diff (work 12 hour nights) brings it up to $32. I am taking the RNC this year so that will add another $1.50/hr to my base rate. Sooo in all in all I am bringing home more than I did as a travel nurse in Ca working for 37/hr. Just have to figure in taxes, COLA ect when looking at the wage package. Of course no state income tax here in the hurricane belt.
My starting pay is 24.60 new grad in Neuro ICU and I will be working nights and getting paid 3.50 for the night shift diff. which I will be paid the whole 12 for so this brings me to 28.10 per hour. Oh and a 2.00 diff. on the weekends so on weekends I'll be making 30.10 and I am Illinois and an average 2 bedroom apartemnt here is 1,000.00 and up. For good areas and 625.00 for the bad areas, I live in a good area and have a 3 bedroom so guess what I pay dearly for it. Well in the end it's like making less, when you have to pay more. Oh yeah the nurses here at the County Hospital are going on strike to negotiate their salaries, they say they are the hardest working but the lowest paid? Really and their insurance is only 8.00 a month when the hospital I work at insurance is almost 300.00 a month they get paid less but, do they really?

Sounds like you work at Loyola.
I'm jealous of all the $6-$8 shift diffs.
I'm in a smaller town and it's truely the only hospital setting for about an hour SO, there really isn't any competition... I think our new RN's make about $19 and hour, we get a 6% shift dif for nights. No incentive for weekends.
Our cost of living is pretty decent and I can't imagine raising my kids anywhere else so I guess I can't really complain. We could easily get a new (or newer) 3/2 home for under $150,000. We bought new a few years ago and actually paid well under that so I'll take that over some of the other places we've looked easily.
Most of the larger hospitals here in Phx pay about 25.50-26.50/hr for new grads, plus 20% shift dif and 10% weekend dif, and double time for any overtime.
The hospital I'm at pays 24.50 for new grads, $4/hr shift dif, and $1.25/hr weekend dif. and only time and a half for overtime. I like the people I work with and the management is very supportive, but the pay is lower than most places because it's a 'for profit' hospital.
They do offer pool positions, which pay $40/hr for nights (I'm trying to get this!!).
The cost of living is less here, than most areas, we've been hit really hard by the housing slump and some builders are giving great deals on houses. There are also TONS of foreclosed homes, so the housing prices are continuing to fall. There are also lots of hospitals to choose to work at, I've heard County is giving $20,000 sign on bonuses as well.
