How much do you make as an RN in Labor and Delivery where you work?

Published

I am curious to see which State pays the most money for an RN in Labor and Delivery. I will graduate in May and I start off at $20.50 in Ohio.

Here in Michigan I make $33.00 an hr with 13 yrs experience. There is no difference in med/surg versus L&D pay scale. By the way, I should point out that I am in a union. Not sure what the shift/weekend differential is...but not much.:nurse:

I'm in MN. I make $30/hr base with $3 shift diff for nights, $2.50 for evenings, some kind of weekend diff (Friday PM's through Sunday night shift) -- maybe $1.50? -- Straight night and straight evening RN's have a larger shift diff. I think it's $6 and $8/hr or something like that.

I work in Brooklyn, NY - LICH... $33/hr./ days. Neighboring hospitals base salary is approx. some where between $67,000-69,000:experience diff about 1,000/yr. Most NYSNA Pension.

I am a new grad on my 2nd month of Orientation in L & D. & I love my job !!!!:wink2:

I live in Central Ca & the hourly wage is $32.00 plus a $4/hr night diff & more for wknd nights. This is at a smaller hospital, averages 130 births/month w/ 5 attending OB Docs.

The average home cost here is $225,000. Although, this is after our real estate crash last year. Unfortunately, we bought our home during this time & I am paying $1700/ month for a 70's house that needs alot of work! This is where my $ goes! & oh- our gas prices-= Youch!! You can see where the $ goes!

I'm in a small town in Northern CA. New grads start at $26/hr, with $3/hr differential for nights, no weekend differential. This is the same for all departments- perhaps surgery is more now that I think about it though.

Specializes in OB.

In Burlington VT they offered me 24.80 per hour with 1 yr exp. on a postparum floor and no previous L&D experience. (plus 3-4 more per hour for shift dif.)

Specializes in L & D nurse!.

I'm a new grad (and new RN) in Labor and Delivery here in NYC and I get paid a base salary of $35.31 an hour ($68,853.23 annually) and an additional $6,000 annually for working nights ($3.08 an hour).

Specializes in L&D, OR, Med/Surg.

New grads in the Central California Valley start at about $38 hour. After 2 years experience $41+ per hour. At my hospital, the night differential is $6 hour more. We work 12 hour shifts, no weekend differential. I know that CA is one of the higher paying areas in the US. But...the cost of living is outrageous here too!

I work in South Jersey and our pay rate is determined by the number of years you have been an RN. We also have "ladders" where your pay can increase depending on your certifications, CEU's, ability to be a preceptor or charge nurse, etc. Level I is .75 per hr, II is 1.50 per hr., Level III is 2.25 per hr. and Level IV is 3.50 per hr. I think our starting pay for new grads is about $20.00 per hr. before their ladder pay. There is also a $5.00 per hour shift differential for night shift. We also have what we call IPP (incentive pay) which is another $20.00 per hr. until you reach your 40 hours and then you get straight time and a half. A needs list is posted every month after the schedule comes out and you can sign up on a first come first served basis. I have 20 years of experience so my pay, along with my Level III ladder pay, was $36.00 per hr. We get $1.50 an hour extra if we precept or take charge. Charge is only on weekends because we have clinical supervisors who take charge during the week. We also have to take call once a month and are paid $36.00 for the shift. If we are called in we are paid time and a half unless it is to cover a call out and then we are paid IPP. We are paid a 4 hr. minimum, even if we are only there for an hour. As a clinical supervisor I make an extra $3.00 per hr. Hope this helps! Oh, by the way - My boyfriend has a cousin in Florida with the same amt. of experience and she makes $10.00 per hr. less than I do. The pay scale is definitely different, depending on the state and area in which you work. North Jersey and New York have a much higher pay scale than we do. :wink2:

Specializes in OB - RN, nursing instructor.

In southwest Florida I make $26 hr and $6 night shift differential as a PRN nurse. I have been a nurse 15 years and would probably make more if I went back to full or part time but I like PRN. It does not matter how long you have been a nurse, PRN pay here is the same for everyone.

In San Antonio, TX I make $21 an hour as a new nurse - with differentials on weekends and the evenings - which bring it up to about $24 to $25 an hour - but the cost of living is much lower here than many places ...I suppose :(

In SFL i started fresh out of nursing school @ $24.94/hr & $6 diff for nights and $2.75/weekends. at a labor & delivery
