Hey! Ive been an OB RN at a SFL hospital. I got hired straight out of nursing school and I love it! Like KatieL&D said the demises are tough to get accustomed to...but its still rewarding to comfort the pt and family. another drawback is that you know so much and see so much that you start thinking about you and your on pregnancy. so many complications can arise.... overall, its a beautiful thing. every delivery is a MIRACLE. every baby is truly a blessing. its one of the "healthier" areas of nursing. you get to teach a lot! thats cool. n my favorite part- there is ALWAYS room for excitement. babies don't know what time a day it is... deliveries can happen at any time! and at times you get your stat admissions =) and EVERY pt is a different story! but you gotta love it good luck. let me know if u have any questions!!!

Hey everyone. I've worke at a high risk l&d for 2+ years (straight from nursing school). although we have 1 tech for the night shift, the RN does the laboring, assist in delivery. resus baby and tke care of mom. charge nurse is never present for dlelivery. we recover most pts for 2-3 hrs pp, unless theyre severe pec. then they stay with us 6 hrs pp and need to be re evaluated and pih labs sent and stable before tranferring.
