How much do you make as an RN in Labor and Delivery where you work?

I am curious to see which State pays the most money for an RN in Labor and Delivery. I will graduate in May and I start off at $20.50 in Ohio.

Salaries do not change depending on the specialty. You will get the same salary that an RN does on any other unit in your facility that will be starting the same time as you.

Highest pay in general is either in NY or CA. But again, it is state and city specific. There will be major swings in states depending on the city.

Money isn't everything! I recently moved to another facility for less pay because it is safer and there is less stress for me. This has paid off in other ways. I work per diem in Southern California and make 35.99/hr up to about $4 more depending on shift and weekend differentials. Part time and full time people make about $24-$32 at the bottom of the clinical ladder depending on experience.

The important thing to keep in mind regarding southern California or NY is the cost of living. The median home price in my area is about $600,000. Condos start at $300,000 up. Apartments in safe areas go from $800 for a studio on up. The ones around me are about $1800/month for a two bedroom.

What do you need to live? What kind of facility do you want to work in? These are the important questions.

$18.60/hr for new grads here...

Starting pay at a hospital in NC is $19.88. The weekend diff is $10.00 plus a 2nd and 3rd shift diff. Specialty areas also recieve an additional Premium pay $3.00 for L&D and Nursery.

I make $46.00/ hr on my 2nd year of nursing. I work 12 hour day shifts and included in my salary is the evening differential paid thoughout the whole 12 hours. This is in San Francisco.

The www.salary.com website gives a very high average salary for RNs in my area. I'm not sure if this is the way it is across the board. It says $55,000 average with a low of $50,000 and I hope to make $30,000 if I'm lucky. Anyone else have this issue?

Where is this hospital in NC? I work in Fayetteville, base is 19.25 (with 1 year's experience), $4.00 night shift diff, and $1.10 specialty pay. Weekend diff is an extra $3.50. I thought I was bringing home the big bucks!:lol2:

Same here.

Also, some salaries are definitely theoretical estimates for my area because some of the positions don't even exist here!

Last I heard, graduate nurses start at a $17 base in my (small, Florida) town. :o

Western Washington $22 - $40. Plus shift and weekend diffs. This is hospital based, office nursing is 1/2 to 1/3 less. Also clinical ladder and certification. Heed the cost of living advice. SF for $46 is not such a good dael when condos can sell for $850,00.

We have few if any openings for new grads in speciality areas.

Not sure what new grads make here but I'm at 23.80/hr on nights in Florida. This is with 6yrs RN experience including 1yr critical care + our required certifications. Median home price for avg 1600sq ft home is 350,000. Not as great as everywhere else seems to be. We also have a critical shortage in our area for RNs.
