How much housework do you do?

Published

I have just had 2 days off, and realised I spent most of my time cleaning the house, and being mums taxi.

So, a little lightheartedly, how much housework is normal? I do about 3 hours a day on working days, and 6 hours on days off. Is my daughter right and am I a cleanaholic?

Cannot stand a dirty house, I can't relax if the house is a mess...but I wouldn't say that requires putting in a huge amount of time. On days I work, I come home and throw in a load of laundry if needed, pick up anything laying around, maybe vaccuum, and do dishes if there are any. I spend about 4 hours one day a week, usually Saturday morning, cleaning from top to bottom, all the bathrooms, floors, etc. It helps that I have a small house and I'm able to pretend that the kids' rooms don't exist- I just keep their doors closed! They have to clean their own rooms about every 2 weeks, and I'll deep clean them maybe every two months.

I do the minimal possible. Every morning i put a load of laundry in and will unload the dishwasher ready to be filled again during the day. I then pick one task a day, so this morning I have dusted and hoovered the downstairs, tomorrow I will dust and hoover upstairs, then the day after do the bathrooms etc. House still looks a tip though, with 2 small children and a lack of staroage there are toys and bits everywhere, but i guess underneath it is reasonably clean. Hubby doesn't do any of the dirty cleaning like bathrooms etc. but he will clear the table after dinner, load the dishwasher, clean up the kitchen and take the rubbish out, and every now and then we blitz a room and he helps me with that so can't really complain

I want my house clean & neat inside & out! We (my hubby & me) do clean everyday so that keeps everything done. He vaccums, dusts, does laundry, dishes ect. just like I do. I look at it this way we both live here...I am not his mother, it takes two to mess...two to clean. A little a day keeps it all done. It does not have to be spotless, but it does have to be clean, & neat!

Once a week I do the house from top to bottom the rest of the week I just tidy up. THe washing well daily or else I cant get into the laundry room!

Have you noticed the common thread - HUSBANDS DO NOT CLEAN BATHROOMS!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. It was lovely to hear from our American sisters. I always lurk over to the USA forums as they seem really interesting.

Just had my KSF interview!!!

I pay someone else to do mine -well the bulk of it anyway. She's comes twice a week for 3.5 hours each time & goes top to bottom & does the ironing. All I do is the basic stuff in-between -some more ironing & the daily cook/clear up -which DH helps with too.

I refused to go back to work unless I was able to get a cleaner in.

I fully intend to do the same in the USA too! Best money I spend each week in my book!

30-45 minutes per day, light cleaning, and one 3 hour big clean per week... I guess it depends on how big your house is and how many people are helping out!
