Just wondering. I am trying to add up the costs. I hear from some it should take $5000, and for others $7000, and for yet some others $12000! Well, what is it??? What did it average those of you that finished the program?
My AS cost a little under 5000.00 including the enrollment and graduation fees and my hotel at CPNE. I used CLEP and community college tests out to lower cost of the generals - purchased used versions of the recomended textbooks and did not buy any practice tests, cpne workshops etc. Felicity
PS graduated with honors
Hi Travel2bee,
you have really got me interested with the info I just read. I am aware of Excelsior and their big fees. What I am also aware of is not all of the STATES have the same policy with regards to what they accept and what they do not accept from online colleges. For instance I have never checked with the STATE BOARD in Albany, NY to see whether they accept nursing graduates from Excelsior.
The name of the school in NJ I mentioned this morning is Ocean County College. It has a one day per week where you travel there and the rest you do online. However, you have to submit about 3 or 4 essays when applying. Thanks for the info. Bye

YES NY BON accepts EC as a "offical" accrediated school ... here is the website (would be a little dumb for the school that is in the same town as the BON not accept a EC's RN!)
ok here is my break down best i can remember ...mind you i have not finished . i am currently awaiting a cpne date
ec test x 6= 1230
cpne x 1 ( and i mean that.... x1 only) = 1900
practice test x 6=360
information literacy=300
i forgot the enrollment fee= $895
___________________________
grand total = $ 4,685
ok now minus the scholarship i received from ec
$4,685- 750=3,935
i had a associates degree when i started so the only thing left for me was that useless literacy course...
If I take into account EVERYTHING, I would say close to $12000, partly because I took the CPNE three times. I had most of the non-nursing requirements, except for EC's Information Literacy, which was $300-something, and I also took a Spanish course at my local college to fulfill the Humanities requirement. I took Nursing Concepts 1-7, and I also paid a lot of money for CPNE workshops, EC's Care Planning and Documentation online courses, travel expenses for the CPNE and workshops and CPNE, and my annual fee and graduation fee. But it was well worth it. I took out a home equity loan nearly two years ago, and my goal is to pay it off in one year while I'm still in the draw period.
I spent around $5500 or so. That includes my 7 modules, the CPNE (mods were 150 ish a pop and CPNE was 1500), the EC workshop, books, and 1 year of local community college for a handful of prereqs. Also, I was reimbursed by my employer for about $3000 of that. So all total out ended up being only about 2500.
Now grad school on the other hand.....yeesh...

I had to take 7 NC exams 1435. Adult lifespan 175. English 102 at the local college, $270. CPNE 1625, plus travel and hotel @ 300.
One week-long CPNE workshop, including travel, 1200.
Plus it depends on repeats. I had to retake NC 5 twice, and two others, so that's another $800. I did a LOT better after getting treatment for ADD, but had to go off it just before my CPNE which I also failed the first time. Another 1625 plus travel only this time I used Priceline.
I have had some reimbursement from the hospital I work for, if you work and it looks, on the surface, like Excelsior expenses can't be covered then talk to them -- someone suggested this when I was halfway through and I was surprised how readily they agreed to cover the exams as if they were courses, after all after the end result is I get to take the NCLEX ... I have my new grad interviews tomorrow and Friday.
