Hi Travel2bee, you have really got me interested with the info I just read. I am aware of Excelsior and their big fees. What I am also aware of is not all of the STATES have the same policy with regards to what they accept and what they do not accept from online colleges. For instance I have never checked with the STATE BOARD in Albany, NY to see whether they accept nursing graduates from Excelsior. The name of the school in NJ I mentioned this morning is Ocean County College. It has a one day per week where you travel there and the rest you do online. However, you have to submit about 3 or 4 essays when applying. Thanks for the info. Bye

Hi traveler2bee, I am sorry I do not have the info you're seeking. I have just about given up on pursuing this path because of the many negative responses I have received. I am currently pursuing business and I am seeing positive results. I do not know where you're from but there is a school in NJ that offers Nursing program in January. You do the program online and travel once per week. At the moment I cannot remember the name of the school but I will check it out for you later. Bye

Hi delee99, Hello to you. Recently I failed out of AAS nursing program at community college in NYC. I have since applied to another school for their LPN program. I just saw your posting about doing most of your LPN courses online and I am interested in information about your school. When I was in school I placed all my eggs in one basket,so to speak. So, although I have applied to another school I am trying to have a back up plan. The school I applied to, program starts in January and the entrance exam is in October. Thanks for the info

Hi rninme, I am happy to see there is some discussion about Deaconess. I live in NYC and today I tried to get information about the school because I was thinking about enrolling in ASN Nursing program at the school. I contacted the NLN and was told the school is accredited. I also contacted NY State Education Dept. and Missouri State Education. An individual at the Missouri State Education Dept. told me that the school is recognised by the Education Dept on a CONDITIONAL BASIS. The reason being the school NEEDED to have an 80% pass rate however it has not been able to do so. I questioned if I do enroll would I be able to take the NCLEX. I was told that those students who are already enrolled would be allowed to take the NCLEX. The other statement made to me was there are no guarantees that the next graduating class will do well. So there is no way of knowing whether the CONDITIONAL BASIS will remain or move to FULL recognization. I am surprised to see that a credit is about $500. the reason being, spending that kind of money per credit I think people would be very, very serious about making it. What is sad is individuals like me who are desperate and trying very hard to accomplish our dreams cannot afford this school even though it is a great opportunity to do ASN program online.

Hi to all those who replied to my post, I appreciate time taken to reply to my plea for info and help. Recently I called several schools In upstate NY. One of the schools Director of Nursing called me and left a message for me to email her about questions I have. I will pursue this since their Fall 06 program is not closed as yet. I hope she accepts at least my first year of nursing classes.

Hi fellow struggling students, I was in AAS/ADN program in NYC and this past semester I failed out of the program. I would have graduated in Dec 2006. Is anyone aware of distance learning program which would allow me to continue my education and fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. If there is no AAS/ADN are there any LPN programs which would accept my credits which I have completed without having to redo all of my classes. Thanks for info. Many of us who would be very good nurses becuase we care about people and given another chance would definitely appreciate it very much to achieve our dream. Thanks.

LoveNursing422, The hours of study time for me was 1am -4am. It is very quite and everyone is asleep. If you have a familly, someone once said always make sure the rest of the family are taken care of first before you take time to study. With regards to work there are times when you will have to sacrifice work time especially when it comes around to the time for the careplans in 104 a careplan is due everyweek and the deadline would look like it is too short a time given. Just make sure you understand the concept about the careplans. As matter fact they made some changes. Just remember don't expect to find the info you are looking for just there on a page when you open the text book. Sometimes you take a word or phrase from a certain page of one book then in another book you will get the rest of the info. The school received a grant from the Government so things are different than when I started the program. one other point, I remember when I took Micro and I got into the Nursing Program, I felt that was the only class which prepared me in some way for the Nursing Program. The nursing program is all about CRITICAL THINKING never forget that. Especially, when you get to 203 because you are closer to becoming a nurse.

Hi loveNursing422, I have been so busy seeking a permanent job and checking out other schools even in connecticut thatI did not sign on until a little while ago. Anyway I did only the nursing classes. Like I said you have to investigate the time of the day which works for you.

Hi New Nursing Students, Welcome to Nassau. I attend/attended Nassau. This past semester I failed 203 and I am out of the program. Currently I checking out other schools and it is frustrating out there. Nassau is great but like every other Nursing Program it is tough to remain in the program once you're in. Currently Nassau has help for students who are in the first year and are having problems. They recently started to computerize the exams, I guess preparing students for the NCLEX. Just make sure this summer you read the chapters in the Fundamentals from your reading list. So you have a head start. In 104 when you start clinicals this is the time when you ,do a care plan every week they can be deadly. I am not trying to scare you just prepare you. Anyway, just remember any feeling of problem seek your professors confidence IMMEDIATELY. Nurses to be, please be nice and helpful to each other. In the nursing program we all need help at sometime or the other. Information is the key in this world and I have seen in the nursing program many who always wanted information but when they had info they did not want to share. You may experience that. With regards to AHS 105 it is accepted only at Nassau but if you want to do your bachelor's you will have to eventually do Micro. Everyone has there own study pattern and therefore you have to see what works for you. When I was in the program I could not fathom how it is some people were able to work but they did it. The main things is for those of you who are married SIT DOWN WITH YOUR PARTNER AND REALLY, I MEAN REALLY, REALLY TALK TO YOUR PARTNER AND LET HIM/HER KNOW THAT THIS IS FOR THE GOOD OF ALL INVOLVED. BECAUSE THE GOING IS NOT A CAKE WALK IT IS TOUGH BUT IT CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED. MAKE SURE PROBLEMS IN THE HOME CAN BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. Having a GPA of 4.0 or 3.... depends on the amount of classes taken. For instance someone can only have 4 classes completed and have a 4.0 while someone completed 20 classes and have a 4.0. The individual with 20 classes completed is more recognised than the individual who only completed 4 classes if you understand what I mean. Goodluck You will find that the main library and even the nursing lab are not very conducive at Nassau to study in so many of us went to Hofstra library. Their library is very big and the caffeteria is ok. At weekends the parking lot close to the library is good to park in with out getting a ticket. Anyway I don't mind sharing info. Bye

Hi Nursing students, I attended Nassau Community College and would have graduated in DEC 06, however; I failed out of the program. I have checked out other schools in my area and the information I received is "our program is competitive and you may not get accepted into our program if you were already in a nursing program". Would appreciate any information on LPN or ADN programs even if located in NJ because I am not giving up on my dream. :thankya:
