How many times should I take NCLEx before I give up?

Published

I graduated from university two years and one month ago. Next Wednesday will be the 5th time taking the NCLEx. I have taken Kaplan twice. I did a private program called Sycamore Nurses NCLEx review, twice. Hurst review, Saunders 4th Edi and I'm reviewing through ATI right now. On maternal nursing my scores from test one 50% test two 46% and finished test three 41%. My confidence is shot. My grade point average in school was 3.69. I have my BSN. But I can't pass NCLEx. In fact, I'm on first name basis with the Pearsonvue people.

I feel like I made the biggest mistake by attending nursing school. As of March 1st, I have been living out of my car. Today was the first time I ate at a homeless soup kitchen. 85% of my take home pay goes to school loans. You can find me studying in West LosAngeles libraries with the other homeless. But this isn't the lifestyle I was expecting.

How many times should one take the NCLEx before you just give up?

Oh dear.. you probably have test anxiety. But I believe your hardwork will pay off one day:> Just don't stress yourself out and have faith. You can do it!

You can do it! Don't give up!!

Branzilla - PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP!!! I was in the same boat as you as far as passing and after NUMEROUS attempts I finally passed!!! There is no doubt that NCLEX is the hardest test you will ever take, but you can do it!!! I have to believe that test anxiety plays alot into your situation, as well as the stress from living in your car and paying back your student loans. Defer them, get yourself into a more stable situation and go back and take it again. The LaCharity book was a lifesaver for me... I highly recommend it!! And let your ego go... I know this is a hard one, but when you are a nurse and caring for your patients, they REALLY DON'T care how many times you took to pass NCLEX, they only care that you are taking care of them and that you are a good nurse!!! Please let us know how you are doing and be sure to keep looking to us for support!!! We/I believe in you and know that you can do it!! You too will be able to write that RN after your name SOON!! :tinkbll::flwrhrts:

I am in same boat , but more times than 5 , but there are people who have taken it way more and i am going to be one of them , i always think of albert einstein who took am exam 100 times to pass . so i cant go that far too expensive but we cant give up ob r dream . save again take a break if need . but we will do it . we will succeed

i have the lacharity book shame to say its dusty LOL. from being tired of taking test I started but didnt finish,.... with the threads here I am picking my book back up and getting it together with Gods help I can do it at least now I have much much less stress than years pass, I have to believe nursing is for me no matter what some say. cuz Ive had people tell me "why u pick a major that need a test to get a job anyway" go find another type of job making real money with no test....but I also hear dont give up, no patient will know how many times you took test just how well you treat them.

i know the feeling, sometimes i get so upset with my self, and i have even argued with the bon because 2 times that i have taken the exam has been extreme amounts of noice and its very aggrevating but they dont care. i grad 3 yrs ago, but i am going to go until i pass. we will pass this DEVIL...

Same here...I took 3 times and in New Jersey after 3 times if taking the Nclex you have to attend a review course before you can take it again. Those darn things are not for free either... is so frustrating.

Or u can take it for a different state that's what I did I took it in fl 3times and on the 4th passed in New York! I just have to get endorsed for fl since I live in Florida the BON said its not a problem

But don't I have to go through the whole process of registering and getting my fingerprints done? That's money too.

It's diff for every state I felt it was a cheaper easier route to go than paying for an expensive refresher course plus all of the refresher courses around me were like not doable for me they were like 8 hours away from Panama City (where I live)

I got you...thanks :) I will look into it.
