How many times should I take NCLEx before I give up?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I graduated from university two years and one month ago. Next Wednesday will be the 5th time taking the NCLEx. I have taken Kaplan twice. I did a private program called Sycamore Nurses NCLEx review, twice. Hurst review, Saunders 4th Edi and I'm reviewing through ATI right now. On maternal nursing my scores from test one 50% test two 46% and finished test three 41%. My confidence is shot. My grade point average in school was 3.69. I have my BSN. But I can't pass NCLEx. In fact, I'm on first name basis with the Pearsonvue people.

I feel like I made the biggest mistake by attending nursing school. As of March 1st, I have been living out of my car. Today was the first time I ate at a homeless soup kitchen. 85% of my take home pay goes to school loans. You can find me studying in West LosAngeles libraries with the other homeless. But this isn't the lifestyle I was expecting.

How many times should one take the NCLEx before you just give up?

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through now but I believe in you! With God all things are possible. Have faith in God and have faith in yourself. I know you can do it so continue to trust. This to will pass so keep keeping on. I know of someone who pass on their 7th try and another on her 10th try. You will succeed so have some more confidence and go there and pass that Enclex. Good luck and be strong in times like this!!:redbeathe:yeah:

You can do it.......don't give up and stay focus inspite of situational episodes.....Best of Luck....:dncgcpd::dncgcpd::dncgcpd:

First of all I wanted to Thank all you for your support. I appreciate the warm wishes and prayers you sent my way.

Last Thursday I took the NCLEx in Pasadena Pearsonvue. 5 hours. 265 questions. I failed a 5th time. I was able to purchase a new NCLEx test through Pearsonvue and my name has not shown up on the Cal Board of Nursing online verification.

If there is anything that I think I have learned from this testing experience, I'm REALLY good at taking tests. Its the passing part I still need to work on. :)

never give up we all with you.......don't forget to smile..........you can do this........

Sorry to hear this. Regroup. Know it is easier said than done, but if things were better for you, you would still need to get this test over and done with. Best wishes for your retry.

OMG my name is now listed in Ca BON. I'm officially an RN!!!

PVT works!

Thanks for rubbing it in. I'm sorry if my excitement is being held back for you.

I agree branzilla that person who posted that was very inappropriate to post on your thread they should of made they own thread and should be a shame of themselves. Reminds me of my classmates on fb who rubbed it in everyones face and looked down on us who failed. You keep your head up Branzilla we will get through this good luck and God bless you.

Sorry to hear that you didn't pass, but it seems like you have the right attitude and drive to pass this test! You will do it if you don't give up.

Wondering if you have used the LaCharity prioritization book to study? I went through the hurst review, and looked it over but thats it. Then I bought Kaplan book and did all the end of chapter tests and practice test (61%) and my last study aid was the LaCharity book. The last couple of days before my test all i did was the workbook and I can honestly say that this book is what made me pass. Most of my questions were prioritization, planning and delegation. When I took my test I only got 3 SATA and I was really worried, but got TONs of prioritization. I swear that there were even similar NCLEX questions to the LaCharity workbook.

With that said, if I were you I would take some time and get some stability before you even worry about taking the test again. All the stress you are under has to be effecting your ability to take this test. Give yourself a break and like other posts stated get a job (CNA would be perfect) and get yourself some money to eat! Then start again with NCLEX.

I wish you the best, oh and if you call student loans (as long as they are not private) then they should give you a deferment/forbearance if you do have a job. I think it is called economic hardship.

Noodlehead....OMG TY so very much. Seriously 150 out of 265 questions were prioritization questions. I was just talking to someone else who said they were getting ready to take NCLEx and I said, "Focus on prioritization and delegation." I'm taking ATI and they didn't have lessons on prioritization except a little chart in the leadership chapter. I will jump on that book you recommended. This a good little pick me up that I needed to get started in the right direction.

Gracias

Hello, I have recently taken my NCLEX examination for the first and did not pass. I commend you for your strength to keep going on to take the exam! However, I truly believe that God will not give you more than what you can bare, and he gives us wisdom. I agree that you should work something out so that your student loans can be deferred. You are a hard-working and determined person, the lenders should take that into consideration. You have a degree under your belt. I will keep you in my prayers that you will be SUCCESSFUL AND PASS, just as I will pray for my own success and passing. It has been hard for me because I have been depressed and angry due to my situation but I am fighting negativity...to believe that things will get better and God will bless! Best wishes to you!!

I agree with everyone here because they have provided good, sound information for you to consider. I also agree that you should continue to take the exam until you pass. Unfortunately, it's hard on your ego, but once you pass, you would have achieved something that you put alot of time and energy into, it is worth it, so don't give up!!! I have to tell myself this same thing everyday as well. Keep praying and you will pass!!!
