How many Nursing schools did you apply to?

Published

Hello!

Right now, I'm in a pre-nursing program. My first semester I finished with a 3.2 GPA. I know, that's not the greatest and I'm kicking myself. Transitioning from high school to college was a hard adjustment for me. This semester, though, I finished with a 3.9 GPA! I'm so proud of myself! :w00t:That equals an overall GPA of about 3.5 for my first year. Hopefully, I can keep up the good grades for another year. I'm nervous about applying to schools. My dream school is UNMC in Omaha, NE. Only a hundred or so are accepted. In order to be eligible for UNMC, you must have at least a 3.0 and to be competitive you need a 3.5 or higher. I'm thinking I don't have much of a chance with the grades I have now. In hopes of getting accepted to at least one, I'm planning on applying to at 3+ schools. How many would you suggest I apply with a 3.5 GPA (3.5 is my worst case scenario)? How many did you apply to? What do you think my chance of getting into UNMC is? or any other school for that matter. And if you don't mind sharing, what was your GPA?

Oh and another thing, don't get discouraged if initially you aren't accepted and the program waitlists you or gives you an alternate #. I say that because my program only accepts 30 people and I was alternate #9 when I got my letter in a April but in May a spot became available and I accepted it of course.

So I just found out today that I got 1 out of the 66 seats available. Like I mentioned earlier, I had only applied to this one school since it was the only one I could apply to at the time. I was planning on applying to the community colleges around here for the Spring semester if I didn't get in. I guess I don't have to anymore, though... :)

Whoa! Good for you! You must feel like a million right now! Congrats and good luck!

Congratulations!!!!! I will continue nail biting until I get a letter...

When I applied I wasn't too confident on getting accepted into any programs. So I applied to 3 schools (2 BSN & 1 ADN) and was accepted to all 3. I ended up going the ADN route since my uncle offered to pay all my tuition. Congrats to everyone who got in!

I'll probably apply to 2-3. There are several nursing programs in my area and I want to make sure I don't put all my eggs in one basket in case I don't get into the school I want.

I only applied to one school. I live in the boonies with only one community college that offers the RN program so short of moving my family or a 1 1/2 hour commute one way, I didn't have much of a choice. Luckily my CC is a very good school with a high NCLEX pass rate. So far I've a learned a lot and I'm very happy with our program. :)

I think that is a great accomplishment for your first year! You've worked extremely hard, and that work has paid off. I think that your GPA sounds great, personally. I only applied to and was accepted by one school: UTC. I had an overall GPA of 3.57, Science GPA of 3.2, and TEAS score of 88. I would suggest that you keep your science grades high, because they seemed to matter the most to my school. I think that if you keep up the good work you won't have a problem getting in :)

I applied to 7 schools, was accepted into 3 schools : Glendale, LA southwest, LATTC for Fall 2012, Santa Monica College for Spring 2013, alternate @ LA Harbor college, got 2 rejections from Golden West College, and Cerritos.

I have 3.75 GPA, 3.5 Science GPA and 72 Teas V score.

My suggestion is "APPLY AS MANY AS POSSIBLE TO NURSING SCHOOLS." So, you will have a better chance or options. Good luck you guys. Do not give up on ur dream !!!

Thank you very much! That's nice to hear! It seems like everyone around here gets 4.0s. Congrats to them, but it makes me feel a little inferior at times. :( I'm trying my best to concentrate mostly on my sciences. Thanks for the advice!

Hey there! I'm from Nebraska and will start at UNMC's lincoln campus in the fall. My gpa was a 3.4 when I applied, but I had some pretty good experience, CNA license, and worked as a caregiver. I also repeated anatomy after getting a C the first time, and a B the second time. So even if you do have only a 3.5..make sure some solid experience. Just make sure that you write about your experience in the UNMC application essay.

I'd be happy to answer any more questions you have! I know a girls that got into the omaha campus and she only had about 3.5 and had repeated micro.

Oh! Seriously?! It's great to hear advice from UNMC student! Congrats on your acceptance! :) I'm volunteering at a hospital soon for 6 months to a year. What else would you suggest I do to make myself more appealing to UNMC?
