  1. I am a newly Licensed LPN Graduate looking to get my first job. I live in the Orange City, Deland, Debary Florida area and I am willing to drive as far as Daytona Beach or Sanford, Fl for work. Does anyone know of specific facilities or physicians offices which hire new graduate nurses in my area? I have literally gone door to door with my resume and asked about employment, at both LTC facilities as well as medical offices. I have experience with mothers and babies as a CPE and feel I would be an asset at an OB GYN office, but seems like I can t get anyone to give me a chance. I graduated with honors, a stellar GPA and won three awards while in the nursing program, and have included that information as well as a breakdown of clinical areas/hours and the skills Ive learned on my resume. I have been searching for work almost a month now, and without any success for so much as an interview. Im worried because I have loans due soon as well as bills to pay and kids to feed. Any suggestions or insight as to where or how to go about getting a job in my area is most appreciated.
  2. In less than 24 hours after testing, I see my exam status as "PASS" on the Florida Board Of Nursing website! What a relief. The pearsonvue trick worked for me!
  3. So, I took my NCLEX PNexam for the first time yesterday. Computer stopped at 85 questions, after a grueling brain workout. I felt like the first question right out of the gate was a high level question, and once I answered it correctly that is all I kept getting. I couldnt believe it because some of the topics I had never heard of before and I even started to wonder if they gave me the RN test by mistake! Somehow, I made it through. I had a 30 minute drive home in which I spent most of it in tears because I didnt feel I knew much of the content at all, and I was sure I failed. I decided to do the Pearsonvue trick, and lo and behold, I got the pop up that stated "Our records indicate you have already scheduled this exam..." I have continued to check every few hours only to get the same pop up. I hope it is true what everyone is saying about it being 99% or higher in a accuracy, because I just cant believe it!
  4. Anyone know what the procedure is for Florida?
  5. Congratulations!!
  6. I cant believe how fast the time has gone by. Im sure it has something to do with how busy school keeps us. Isnt there a saying "time flies when youre having fun"!
  7. Do you mean you need Nursing Diagnosis' for your care plans? Id probably start with your patient's gas exchange, cardiac output, their fluid volume, pain, and activity intollerance , by using my Nurses pocket guide. I would look them up and see how and what "fits" and use it to help with listing my interventions and rationales. Nursing care plans do get easier with practice, esspecially once you get through Med-Surg and learn about the pathophysiology of disease processes.
  8. pookyp: I am glad to help. I hope it works. It sounds like you are really committed to your daughter and school. You will make a very caring nurse.
  9. It is a lot of work, but it's like you said, futurenursenesha , "you get out of it what you you put into it". Our program is a 12 month long program too, and there is a lot to learn in such a short time. But...it CAN BE DONE! And although there were times I wanted to cry and give up, I am still here and have made it 3/4 of the way. And YOU'RE going to do this!
  10. I studied about 6 weeks, and I used the TEAS V study guide so I knew exactly what I needed to study. I had to refresh in the math area as I am older than most students and it had been a while. I must say it helped me a lot.
  11. WOW! 92% is GREAT! I know at my school they focused mainly on GPA and a passing score on the TEAS V test. If they look at that TEAS score alone I'd say you stand a pretty good chance of being accepted. I'd bet your GPA is as impressive as your TEAS score. :)
  12. Pookyp It sounds like you're going through a rough time right now. Are you in your first semester? First semester was the hardest for me. Unfortunately, when kids are little they dont understand that mommy is busy. I'd like to make a suggestion if I may, since I taught positive parenting for many years. I wonder...If you could take and set 30 minutes aside before you started studying to focus strictly on "one on one" time with her? Your daughter can get her "mommy time" in and you may be more likely to be able to focus on your studies. Im thinking no cell phone, computer, tv, just you and her enjoying each other's company. Color together, read a book, play a game or simply cuddle. Maybe give it a try and see what happens? I know nursing school isnt easy or everyone would be doing it! You CAN and you WILL do this! Let me know if you try it and if it helps. I hope it does.
