Hello!
Right now, I'm in a pre-nursing program. My first semester I finished with a 3.2 GPA. I know, that's not the greatest and I'm kicking myself. Transitioning from high school to college was a hard adjustment for me. This semester, though, I finished with a 3.9 GPA! I'm so proud of myself! :w00t:That equals an overall GPA of about 3.5 for my first year. Hopefully, I can keep up the good grades for another year. I'm nervous about applying to schools. My dream school is UNMC in Omaha, NE. Only a hundred or so are accepted. In order to be eligible for UNMC, you must have at least a 3.0 and to be competitive you need a 3.5 or higher. I'm thinking I don't have much of a chance with the grades I have now. In hopes of getting accepted to at least one, I'm planning on applying to at 3+ schools. How many would you suggest I apply with a 3.5 GPA (3.5 is my worst case scenario)? How many did you apply to? What do you think my chance of getting into UNMC is? or any other school for that matter. And if you don't mind sharing, what was your GPA?
I applied to 3 ADN schools. Beth Israel, Dorothea Hopher, and Cochran but withdrew from the last two when I was accepted into Beth Israel since that was my first choice. I heard back from Beth Israel within 3 weeks of applying so there was not point to continue with the others for me. I had a 4.0 gpa and scored in the 97th % on the Pax entrance exam.
I believe your GPA is excellent and as long as you keep your science courses within that same range you should be fine.

I agree keep those grades up, I only wanted to go to one school and I was accepted the first time I applied.
Hey! I just got accepted to the traditional BSN at UNMC Omaha! My overall GPA was 3.6 (including dual enrollment from high school). However, they mostly look at the necessary pre-requisites. Without those extra classes I had a 3.8. I applied to the Omaha campus as my 1st Choice; my 2nd and 3rd were Lincoln and Norfolk. It may help to know that I work in a level 3 NICU as a CNA/Unit Coordinator (secretary), and have been a lifeguard for 3 years total. Although I don't have volunteer hours I have worked as a volleyball Coach for 4 years and have had 2 other jobs. I think what's most important is that you're well rounded, and seem invested. It also helps that I was on the Dean's list every semester. Good luck, I hope you get in!! Really work on finding a job with your CNA because I've learned so much in the past 8 months - AND it makes me that much more excited to be a nurse!

I applied to four BSN programs (In Texas) and got accepted to two of them. I'll be starting nursing school this fall! For those of you still taking prerequisites, dont let your GPA fall below a 3.5, keep your science GPA in good standing, volunteer or get a job anywhere where patient care is available, study for the HESI or TEAS ahead of time, and apply to as many schools as you can! The last thing you want to do is put all your eggs in one basket, since Nursing schools are highly competitive especially if the program top ranking or in demand (I worked my butt off to get accepted to a well known/qualified program). For those of you that still time before applying to programs keep in mind admission committees like to see proactive applicants. I wish all of you good luck in the future!
