I am curious how many new grads from 2009 still do not have jobs. I graduated in 2009 and it has been.....well a nightmare to find a job. Many new grads have been doing everything they can to get a job with no luck. Many I know work per diem work such as flu shot clinics, wellness clinics and private duty. Many do not want to work in those settings, but have no choice. Getting a hospital job seems to be like winning the lottery!!!
If you are a new grad from 2009 what have you been doing for work? Did you choose another job like retail or have you been working flu shot clinics?
Thanks for your input!

? just wondering, what state are you in? It really depends on the state. If you search the web you will see that there is a lot of job offering. I have a friend who is a foreign graduate, less that a month she's got hired.. good luck, god bless ^_^

I read that only 30% of new grads got jobs, while the rest are unemployed.

still looking. Now I am volunteering hoping it will get me somewhere. I am also looking into Americorps.gov - they give you a stipend (not much!) and pay health care (for you only), but give you experience in public health sort of stuff.

i graduated with honors from nursing school, searched for jobs and applied, i even went to nursing job fairs, the recruiters would not even take my resume because i had no hospital experience. everyone wanted someone with 3-5yrs hospital experience. How was i going to get experience if someone does not hire me *shrugs*. I currently work private duty, don't really like working in people's home, i am working on starting a business. You are right, trying to get into a hospital as a new grad is like trying to win the lottery
I am just trying to get a general idea of what is going on around the country. Your friend won the lottery!!!!!
WOW 30%! Yeah that feels about right. You wouldn't happen to know where you read that? I would love to read that article.

I graduated in Dec 2009 and had two jobs offers by that time - so it does depend on the location. I believe all my graduating class found jobs. It may have not been the first choice of unit or shift - but they did get jobs. I'm in upstate NY and I know they are still hiring new grads around here.
Good luck to you - hope you get something soon. :)

My roommate and 15 grads of class of 2009 haven't found a job! Please help
All new grads need help! New grads are at a loss right now. I think the best thing to do is get anything you can. Eventually the economy will turn around. Until then work flu shot clinics, LTC, or even go back to school. Just do something! Don't let it take you down and give up the dream you worked so hard for.
I was ablet to get her a teacher aide position, so she could help with the rent in the mean time.
