I am curious how many new grads from 2009 still do not have jobs. I graduated in 2009 and it has been.....well a nightmare to find a job. Many new grads have been doing everything they can to get a job with no luck. Many I know work per diem work such as flu shot clinics, wellness clinics and private duty. Many do not want to work in those settings, but have no choice. Getting a hospital job seems to be like winning the lottery!!!
If you are a new grad from 2009 what have you been doing for work? Did you choose another job like retail or have you been working flu shot clinics?
Thanks for your input!
I graduated August 2009, I took time off to do my NCLEX took me about a month to find a hospital position on a Medical floor. I had moved back near my parents for my last clinical rotation. I know a lot of my classmates two hours away ended up starting with me because there no jobs there.
Hi,Just wanted to ask which part of upstate new york did you find a job, because I have been searching since aug 2009 and nothing. Thank you in advance!
Rochester area. Rochester General, Strong (have to pass the NCLEX first), Unity. Apply online, send in your resume and then call the recruiter - hope that helps.
Apply to a job even if it says "experience preferred" or "required" especially with a state/local/federal governmental agency.
I am sorry if many of the the new grads were offended by my previous posts, but I am trying to be honest and I believe me I have had many rejections for jobs (even though I felt I was well qualified). You have to persist, A "NO" means I know I have to keep looking for a "YES".
wow - I graduated in 2009 and was lucky enough to be hired onto the floor I did my externship on (in the hospital I had worked as a tech). I worked there (happily) for 6 months then my husband and I moved across the state and I landed the first hospital job I interviewed for. I was so excited. . .until I started the job and realized how absolutely horrid it is (disorganized, hateful people, hateful patients, etc) but when I read posts like this I realize I need to be grateful and patient and after 6 months I can try to transfer to a better floor.
I wish you all the best of luck - so sorry that you are struggling to find work when good nurses are needed so badly.
I graduated January 09. I was very lucky. I got ICU night shift after about 2 months of job hunting. I had the advantage of LVN experience though, graduated top of my class, and I'd really done running around trying to get a job. I still have some class members who do NOT have nursing jobs, and they also had previous LVN experience, most of them are still working as LVN's because they cannot get hired. This is in the bay area.
I was actually in southern california and able to find a position when I returned home. About 3 months later tho, it seemed everyone I knew who graduated could not find a job, and still cannot find a job a year later. I feel for them. Not all, but many will be great nurses if they ever get the chance.

So she's going to live in a convent for a year? WOW!
I spent 12 years attending Catholic school. If there had been a nightmare job out there for me...now I KNOW what it would be. LOL
Just kidding. It sounds like a terrific opportunity and I'll bet they're very happy to have her. She will learn SO much on-the-job. And I also bet she'll have quite a bit of fun hangin' with the nuns from time to time.
