How to make a good impression on clinicals

I'm about to go on placement for 6 weeks at a nurse lead clinic, working full time. There is lots of opportunities like child health, immunisation, cancer support, respiratory care ect and I'm really excited. This will be my 4th placement. But my preceptor will be my reference for my application for a new graduate programme I'm going to be applying for after I graduate. It is a condition for my application, must be this placement.So how do you make a good first impression?

Normally by the time I've finished placement I've got really good feedback and had no issues. However I haven't always made a great first impression, asking more questions, showing more initiative and drug knowlegde have been the key point I've really been working on and have made the changes needed, they weren't an issue at all for my last placement. But primary health care is all new to me. And I really want to impress them.

Show up early and never get caught looking at your phone.

I cannot tell you how annoying that behavior is.

There will be a lot of patient teaching opportunities in primary health care/health clinic. In child health for instance, parents, new and old, will have tons of questions about immunizations so brush up in those areas. Particularly, arm yourself with governmental websites that you can refer patients to. Good luck, cheers.

Come prepared.

If you have a question, attempt to look up the answer in your resources before asking your preceptor.

Always, always, always do your own drug calcs, 3 checks, and 6 rights with every single med pass.
