Our hospital has offered: Nothing. Nothing to the nurse on staff for the referral and nothing to the new hire. We were sent an email saying we didn't reach our goal of referrals for HR.Just curiouswhat other hospitals are doing. I heard about the Volkswagon Beetles Methodist offered at one time. What sign-ons/perks are your hospitals offering? I might need to look into to some!

They offer sign on bonuses and decent salaries for the area, but people are quitting in droves, and giving back their sign-on bonuses. Mgmt still doesn't get it- It's all about working conditions and R.E.S.P.E.C.T!
As for getting game-show prizes for signing on with a hospital- They might as well have a bill-board that says "Nurses- if we give you a VW Beetle, can we treat you like crap?"
Absolutely, respect and working conditions are a definite. I am looking, so to speak. Looking at the total package. Money is an incentive because I have student loans still haunting me and will be looking to apply for a home loan so any extras right now are a big big plus. Thanks and keep the responses coming please.

I don't know what they are doing for retention, but I got a 3 thou bonus (over three years) as a new hire. Not the best offer in town, but I liked the work conditions.

We have a 3K sign on bonus paid over a 1 yr period of time. I think recruitment bonus is 1K paid at the end. I have never worried about these bonuses, prefer to negotiate a decent hourly rate instead. Places that offer huge bonuses I would be wary of. My hospital is a smallish one, cliquey and uses a lot of travelers cuz it is a little wierd to fit in. Nights is better than days...days is horrid...the nurses eat each other alive. We have a pretty good crew on nights ...a bit eccentric but pleasant.... I've known them for a long time and we get along (mostly...LOL)

LOL!! I've been known to say the same.
the hospital I will be going to offers $10,000 for relocation and a $10,000 sign-on in certain areas for a 2 year commitment. Not bad. I just PRAY that the working conditions are as good as they APPEARED to be when I checked the place out.
I know that a big bonus can mean big trouble. I did talk to RN's in private about their happiness, they way they were treated by mgmt, drs, etc, and everyone seemed really satisfied with their jobs. Hope it stays that way!

Hey, this topic reminds me of a joke. OK here goes:
A nurse dies and goes to heaven. At the pearlly gates St.Peter asks her if she wants to go to heaven or hell.
Being a good nurse she wants to "access" both places
The tour starts with heaven: beautiful, peaceful, serene
Then moves to hell where the devil is having one heck of a party
Best of all the devil is a looker and he is giving our nurse all of the attention :wink2:
The nurse decides that hell is the place for her. She tell St. Peter that she wants to stay in hell.
Are you sure? asks St. Peter
Yes, Yes. the nurse replies. Heaven was nice, but I like a little action
The next day our nurse was in for a shock. :uhoh21: No more parties, everyone is overworked and cranky, and worst of all the devil is acting like he doesn't even know her name
In a panic the nurse calls St. Peter back. "This place is nothing like it was yesterday" she complains
"Well what did you expect?" asks St. Peter. "Yesterday, they were recruiting you..... Today, your staff"
Sorry to highjack the thread. Just wanted to share

New hires get a small sign-on. Some qualify for small moving expense reimbursement. We actually have a low vacancy rate due to retirement, ins., tuition reimbursement and other benefits. Salaries are adjusted to market value periodically, plus annual evals yield 2-5% raise in base pay. Smaller town (~ 75,000). People would have to drive >1 hr to get equal benefits elsewhere.

Well my employer has a heavy recruiting style, someone threw a bag over my head and poseyed me, threw me into a van and put me on the locked psych unit... I vaguely remember someone medicating me and days later I woke in a fog and was assigned a work detail but by the time my mind cleared I had already received my first paycheck (which was better than my old job) so I stayed. Every so often, we leave the compound, if and when we get relieved
