How long did you wait to go back to school?

I'm just interested in some of your stories.. I completed the lpn program last July. I plan on starting school in August for my prerequisites. How long did you wait to go back to school? Did you continue working? I will still have to work full time. Did you have small children at home? This is what makes me most sad bc my kids are 6 & 1. I had my youngest 3 weeks before my pinning in the lpn program. Thanks all.

Graduated fall 2012 waiting to hear if I've been accepted to the BSN program this fall :)

Five years...life happened. *shrugs*

I wended up getting an associates for the pre req's I has already completed before I went to my PN program; I got licensed, was working, and applied for graduation; I ended up working while going through my BSN program; I had grown up responsibilities, and did what I had to do to get through the program successfully. It has been almost two years that I have been licensed as an RN. I have plans to go back to school, but for now, I love what I'm doing.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Med/Surg, hospice.

I graduated from my LVN program in December of 2011 and started the ADN bridge in January of 2013. I will graduate in 12 days :) I worked around 8 - 16 hours a week PRN either at a nursing home or in hospice. I found the ADN bridge easy compared to my LVN program. The only difference for me was critical care lectures and clinical.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I completed an LVN program at a private trade school in October 2005, took NCLEX in late December 2005, received my license in January 2006, and didn't start working until February because I was in the process of getting a license by endorsement in my new state of residence.

I had to take prerequisite courses over the next couple of years, but ended up enrolling in a bridge program in early 2009 and graduating with the ASN degree in early 2010. I worked full-time the whole time. I am single with no kids.

I graduated last year August 2013 and I just paid my app fee for my lpn-rn program. I had all of my prereqs prior to starting LPN school so I won't need any for my program. I am a single mother of an 8 and 2 year old and I work 40 hrs a week and plan on working throughout school. I am doing my lpn-rn online

I finished LVN school in Nov and jumped back into RN prereqs in Jan. I'm In school full time and work part time.

I have 3 kids, but only 1 young child In elementary school. I'm newly divorced.

My plan is to work part or full time until I start the clinical portion of the bridge program and then work only 1-3 says per week.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I got my LVN license in April of 2010 & finished pre reqs in 2012. I put off applying to bridge programs until last year. But life happened so I had to delay school another year. But I will be applying to the local community college bridge program at the end of this year for fall 2015!

I received my LPN in 2011. I am starting my prereqs in June. I hope to have my RN licence by the end of 2016.

Specializes in Home Health, LTC, Mental Health.

LPN license in 2009, just started traditional BSN program (summer 2014), working one 12 hrs shift per week.

I did all my RN pre-reqs before LPN school. I graduated with my LPN November 2013 and am starting the RN bridge program next month (August 2014). I'll have my ADN July 2015 and then want to bridge straight away to get my BSN. I have two young kids but I am not working so that helps a lot

I graduated from LPN school in 2000 and I just recently graduated from my ADN program May 2014! I waited a long time. Life just got in the way! No kids but I did work part-time doing private duty during my year of schooling. I plan to go back to school eventually but hopefully it will not a very long time frame in between!

Specializes in TBI,bariatric/psych, LTC/memory care.

I received my LPN in 2009(during my program and pre reqs/gen eds I worked anywhere form a 0.4-0.6 as a CNA/TMA and picked up various shifts depending on course load.) I had originally planed to go back immediately for my RN yet due to family health issues I ended up taking sometime off.) This spring I finally felt ready to return to school, I was lucky enough to find a program that my credits transferred to, I took the TEAS V in May, applied to the mobility program in June and found out this month that I was excepted to the evening and weekend program starting in January of 2015. The program is three semesters long, my credit load will be lighter in the first semester (then summer break) so I plan to try and work a 0.9 or 0.8 until the second semester at which time I plan to drop to a 0.6(the lowest I can be and keep eligibility for tuition reimbursement). I have no children yet have a long term boyfriend that I live with who is supportive.
